Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

For a moment I would like to get away from the endless memes, spam wars, and Diablo 2 to direct your attention towards an emerging technology. I just saw a show on National Geographic all about "Super Diamonds." If the program was accurate, super diamonds (or CVD Diamonds) could replace silicon, gold, and copper in many electronic applications of the future. Why? well they are about 5x more conductive than copper, and can be produced in any shape (including wafers for printed circuit boards and wires). The fact that they are diamonds also means they can produce ultra clear fiber optics for faster networking. Another interesting point is they are about 50% stronger than natural diamonds. This means computers will no longer be fragile and have a much better military application without bulky armor to protect it from wear an tear (and if the military becomes interested in this technology, most likely it will take off). Even the way these diamonds are forged are amazing. When one thinks of diamonds forming, there is an idea of heat and pressure. Not CVD's. CVD's are formed in a near vacuum in a ball of 3000 degree microwave activated plasma. The inspiration for this was finding diamonds in meteorites, that had naturally formed in the vacuum of space. Computer chips aren't the only things that can be improved. The diamonds can be used to make super clear optics. Imagine telescopes that are able to look deeper into space. If CVD's can be mass produced efficiently, this technology will take off. An investment at the ground floor of this industry would make investments in Microsoft and Apple when they first started up look like child's play. I will certainly be keeping an eye on the development of this technology and looking for a way in. More information can be found at this (rather dry) website: -[link]- some National Geographic clips can be seen here, but doesn't do justice to how in depth the actual show was. I recommend watching it if you have the chance: -[link]- |

Japa wrote ... You just blew my fuckin' mind. best harold and kumar quote ever? I've seen these before. Many speculate that "the name diamond is completely false, they have are not the same thing!" but even if they aren't the same thing, they have many similarities, and these ones even seem to be much better in many, many different ways. Strength, Renewable, etc. Best. Technology. Ever. |

Okay, I can't help myself. All the time you said CVD's you should have said CVDs. But cool nonetheless. |
