Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Now don't dis South Park! It is a font of societal insights and deep philosophy. But no it was not created by him - it was created by that guy Darwin (and I don't think he was fisted on South Park).

Rommel wrote ... I dont belive in god I think its just away for people to to give meaning to life and cope with all the bad shit that happens in the world. There is just to many things signs that its a BS. For Exmple we have carbon dating on rocks that date back before the bible says earth was created Umm...if you wanna try and make an intelligent argument against the beleif of God and the teachings of the bible, you at least have to know that the bible shouldn't be taken literally. Example: Do you really think we are to beleive that there was a talking snake? Also the bible was taken down by humans, seeing how humans aren't perfect, you have to leave some room for error. Without a God to beleive in, people would have no negative consequense for there actions after their death, whats to stop them from doing whatever the hell they want and to cause chaos. Bassically, i thnk that even if there wasn't a God, there would still need somether there to keep people honest |

I agree with drunk that without some system of belief in place of an afterlife that people would feel there is no reason to "behave" in this life. Well, they wouldn't behave until they found out I would start kicking some @ss everytime people f'd up. Now, I'm just one person. But imagine how well behaved society would become if everytime you f'ed up that a bunch of people beat you until you didn't ever want to do it again. LOL!! Seriously, I honestly believe that if the parents step in and teach their kids correctly and stop letting them be raised by TV, the internet, and their friends then this behaving issue may not be an issue at all. But since that will never happen, I'm with drunk that the society would crumble without the idea of striving toward an afterlife. Oh yeah....Family Guy is so much better than South Park.

Well, this is probably a bad thread to make my first post in, but I figured I'd try to calm the storm before this thread gets ugly (as it looks like it is about to). In regards to the topic, 'Integrity' of the Bible. Well, most anyone who isn't a literal interpretist would agree that the Bible is not meant to be taken word for word. It was authored by many people over the course of a couple of aeons and it does, in fact, contradict itself many times. It also depends what part of the Bible you are referring to, as the majority of the Old Testament is a history of the Jewish people, while the majority of the New Testament is a chronicle of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Add in the fact that it has been translated into many different languages which do not always contain analagous words, phrases and ideas. Now, as for evolution...evolutionary theory wasn't 'created' by anyone more than gravity wasn't 'created' by Issac Newton. Charles Darwin was one of the first to postulate evolution by natural selection, but was not the first to think organisms were shaped by such a process. He was, however, the first to present compelling evidence for it. Not to be harsh, but there is very, very, VERY little doubt that evolution is not the guiding force behind the progression of life. It has been observed (and can be by you) in a laboratory setting in bacteria, whom have a much shorter lifespan than most other organisms. It is the reason why you can't keep using the same antibiotics all of the time. People have many misconceptions about the process of evolution by natural selection mostly because they do not understand it. People attack it for being a theory without understanding that a scientific theory is different than one's general idea of a theory. Yes, it has the possibility to be altered, changed, disproven (however unlikely the latter is). This, however is a tenet of the scientific method: the notion of falsifiability. Wow, this turned into a mini book. Anyway, I'm sure some of you recognize me from the office server. See you on there. And shit. -czar |
