I reacently thought of this...time travel will never be possible. Why? Time is not real. It is something we simply made up. So if what we call time travel, or something of that sort is to happen, it would not be time travel, but matter displacement. Also, with that in mind, there is no such thing as the 'past'. The time when I wrote this is nonexistent. It all just happened and that matter is no more. Just a vague memory of it, and a bunch of symbols, that YOU are reading right now, but the motion of my typing this up, is over. I...I can't quite grasp my head over this right now...discuss? I might have put it the wrong way, but. Umm I don't know...kind of crazy when you think the pass dosen't exist. | ||

Time is not real? sorry to totally disagree with you here. I understand you want to think about this in an abstrat way, but there is one man to look at that scientifically proven time as a real. Einstein of course. with his theory of relativity. E=MC(2) energy = mass (x) the speed of light squared we all know energy exists, and we all know that mass exists. now, we also know that light exists, and it travels. Light travels in light years, thus time exists. The onyl theory of time travel I've ever heard that seems plausible is Einsteins'. I suggest you all look it up if you've never heard it. but my main point I want to talk about is how we are constantly traveling through "time". Be it what you want to call it. We are always moving into the future. This was something Back to the Future poked at. think about it |

light years is a measure of distance, not time... if that's what you were inferring... a light year is the distance that light travels in a year... so i guess it does ALSO infer that time does exist. Time and space are both relative tenthdimension.com look up the 4th dimension at that site... if you'd like your brain to explode a second time... |

Ok wow it seems really strange that so many people are talking about this around me these past few days I have had conversations like this numerous times and I am not even going to begin to go into it all but here is something to think about that shows that time travel in essence is possible or at least into the future. Say you have a set of twins and one of them stays on Earth and the other gets in a rocket ship and flies at the speed of light away from Earth for a year then turns around and does the same thing back to Earth. When he gets back he will have only aged two years while his twins great great great great grandchildren are dead. Time is relative to how fast you are moving and this has been proven using two atomic clocks having one stationary and the other flown around in a jet. So yea and if you really want your brain to explode read up on the string theory and things of that nature. |

mmm I love physics : ) Yes time travel would be possible, as to matter displacement, we have already teleported atoms, its just a matter of scale. (Yes, we have teleporters  ) Like jesus said, flying away and back to the earth faster then light would yield "time travel" Heres a question for you. How the fuck did random subatomic particles form together to create an incredibly complex form, the atom. What are the chances of that? Now what are the chances they form together in precise patterns to form molecules? Now whats the chance of those molecules forming together in other precise patterns yeilding elements? Now what about all those coming together to make cells, a collection of billions of atoms. Now these cells, with no brain, no intelligence, no knowledge of the world around them combine in the trillions to create something like an organ. Now somehow they begin to create other organs, skin, hair, etc. Now all these trillions of organisms form a giant sentient being with a mind of its own. These trillions of lifeforms, with no knowledge of the being they have created some how all chill together in the billions, making...you

well actually if you really truly think about it. how do we know all of these exists? <--yeah i know that kinda sounds retarded. but i completely understand bleek on this one. and i think about that too. its hard to understand. and its harder to describe, i tried before, but i just backspaced it all. but yeah, the past is just a mere memory, what happened before can't happen again. you can repeat what happened though. you know what i mean. |

Time is know as the fourth dimension. If we could see in the fourth dimension, what you would see when you looked at an object would be a long snake starting from that objects existance and ending with that objects destruction (but since matter can niether be created or destroyed, the "snake would be infinantly long). Take a pen for example; if you could see that pen and only the pen in the fourth dimension, you would see a snake leading from everywhere that pen has recently been, all the way back to the store where you bought it. From there you could see the stuff that makes up the pen and how it existed before it was a pen, down to the very atoms in the singularity (big bang). Assuming we could travel through time, we would never live to tell about it. This is because unless we are in an absolute vaccume, and the place we were warping to was also in an absolute vaccume the molecules in our body would fuse with the molecules of whatever time we warped to (yes even air molecules). Fusion to humans is very deadly, and would set of an explosion bigger than an atomic bomb. woah And string theory has since been dated, although it is very new, a theory is now emerging known as M theory (or the 11th dimension) This has to deal with the formation of the universe from the collision between our universe and a parallel one. It also explains why gravity is so weak compared to other forces, as it leaks between universes (think about it. Magnetism for example is much stronger than gravity. A simple fridge magnet has more attraction force than a one ton boulder). look it up, it's very interesting. |

Time is existent it is just not tangible and it is also relative a year on earth is less then or more then a year on other planets because we measure a year by how long it takes a planet to circle the sun. If there were no time then there would be no future and that means we would not move at all and the past is a expression of time that have already happened no matter how you measure it. Going to the past is and is not possible on a few levels. If you go with Einstein then you know that if you can go faster then the speed of light you can travail back in time but that is imposable since light is pure energy and to do so would require more energy then pure energy. To top it off if you follow quantum physics then you know that there isn't a single universe but a infante amount with small differences for example there is a universe where I never came to the fish tank clan and there is one where you are a girl. Pretty much every choice and every "random event" has a counter part that creates another universe. in this case time travail is the catalyst. Since I am sure I confused you long ago lets try and make it easier. If you could go back in time you would go to a parallel universe that is the same in all aspects except that you are there in the past and you would be unable to reenter your original universe because even if you could it would just create a parallel one. (added because I got time at work lol) If you think some of the things said are fun then you are going to love this. We can travil back in time not with current tech but some of it we already have. Do we all know what anti matter is? Well we can make it but have yet to find it. You can make it with large amounts of electricity when matter and anti matter react together they form a lot of energy (not as much as necessary to make the anti matter) and also form a hole in time and space also known as a worm hole. The teleporters they talked about earlier are the same thing. If you could make a worm hole big enough for a person and make one end on the earth and one end on a rocket going at the speed of light orbiting the earth (it really could be anywhere) and could stabilize the shuttle end long enough if you went on that space shuttle in say a million years you could walk though that worm hole and end up back in time when the hole was created. There are also theories of a space shuttle engein that you could go faster then light using anti matter and matter together and there is always the possibles of dark matter usage to create a warp bubble. The problem with all these is that there simply isn't any dark or anti matter just laying around in a large enough quantity to properly study and make use of. We can find partials of anti matter all over space (it is acully full of small particals of anti matter and matter attracting then repelling each other). Though once again even if any of those worked the past you went to while it may seem exactly the same to you as the current past is it is acully a alternate universe where your presence is the difference in the end the universe you came from is still suffering whatever fate you left your time to fix. This is why time paradoxes are impossible because while the you in the past no longer has reason to return to his past the you from the alternate dimension future had reason and there for it is imposable to make a time paradox.
