Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

I found a very well written essay that asked this very question. Of course there is no ONE reason for the resentment and hatred people feel for the USA. So naturally there'll be several varying reasons for this sentiment abroad (and in some cases at home). Here's the essay. -[link]- What I like is how it debunks a couple of the "popular" reasons for the hatred towards our country. Particularly the reasons of; language, power & jealousy, success & jealously and misc. reasons which include lack of national healthcare, wasteful use of resources, etc. While these reasons are valid criticisms and worth debate. They don't translate well into hatred, the emotion that when translated into action leads directly to death and suffering. They're also criticisms (there are others) that could be applied to any nation, however most often are targeted at us because, well, we're the most visible. The essay then goes on to list, define and discuss the more valid (read "less ignorant") reasons for the hatred that exists towards our nation. Everything from the continued military support of the 34-year illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Stip by israel to the refusal to participate in treaties and policies that the US not only promised to participate in but BEGAN in the first place (the land mine treaty). Then there's American's patriotism & self-righteousness, who's very language breeds resentment and promotes isolationism. I mean... declaring the 9/11 attacks as an attack on "freedom and democracy" is possibly one of the dumbest things ever said. As if America is the only nation in the world where freedom and democracy exist. As if America is the embodiment of freedom (ha!). Please read this essay. If anything will change how the world perceives America, we as Americans must first take a good look at ourselves. Honestly, developing a deeply rooted personal belief based upon this article is a bad idea (it would probably lead the gullible and impressionable into anti-Americanism). However, in order to ever communicate diplomatically and effectively you need to know where your opponent is coming from. You need to understand their side of the story as well as your own. Only then can you come to some middle ground. Unfortunately our side of the story is... well selfish and greedy. America has and will consistently place it's domestic interests above that of the world's. This is probably the most tangible and purest reason for the hatred that exists towards us. |

It's not so much that I personally hate your country at all. But more the large amount of arrogance a lot of Americans have. Not to say people from countries all over the world aren't arrogant, but it seems USA tops the chart. Another reason your country is disliked is because like Ruskiy said, how it is run, its leaders, and deals/choices they make. And having slaves isn't cool. |

Through israel, a US presence. As that essay pointed out 22% or so of the people who attacked us are opposed because of israel. i think that the "leading nation" or the nation that is considered most powerful at a certain point in time will always be criticed and watched more closly than any other country it was necessary for the souths economny at the time. but oh well |

The government is so secretive the people never know what is going on! French people and others alike blame us for getting bush into presidency, but we STILL dont know shit about what's going on in our own government. What sounds good, changes entirely within like 2 years, and yet it's our fault? We hate most things as much as other people, but we are still loyal to this nation. Sure manifest destiny and Slave trade was wrong, but look at us now, we have a chance to make ourselves perfect but all we do is continue to dig holes... |

Manifest Destiny and Slave Trade was inherited into American Culture because of the British, Spanish, and French. Don't hate on us for being Brits at heart. |

If you read the essay you'll see that any colonial nation did those exact same things. Coerced land from aboriginees, used slave labor, etc. The US wasn't original in committing any of these. So those are pretty poor reasons to hold animosity towards the US. |
