Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

So, now that Le Tour de France is a few days from ending. And this event marks roughly one month till I return for my last semester of college. I am living off campus, and while there is no snow, have decided to ride to school. I'm looking at a few places to live still, from 20 miles away from campus to right across the street. And either way, I'm planning on riding daily (weather pending). I've always been a fan of riding, but had given up long rides for the past 4 years while at school, as I didn't have my own bike anymore. Since school is creeping up on me, I've started to put on the miles again. So far I have only done small rides around my town. I started with a 5 mile, then up to a 10 mile, I've gotten up to around 15 miles so far, and feel great. Today, I rode a roughly 5 mile sprint (up hill 2 miles straight) at roughly 14 mph average. So I'm starting to gather my speed (looking for 20 up by the end of the summer). I'm also looking to be riding about 20 miles a ride by the end of summer. my big question is, does anyone know any good websites to get decent starter bikes for cheap? I've been riding one of my dad's bikes, and he won't let me bring it up to school. Also, has anyone been watching the tour? What do you think of this year, and whatnot? I have a k2. Cost me 500, but it's all aluminum, so its a light bike compared to my dad's steel schwinn. and weight definitely makes a difference. Another big help for riding is clip in shoes, they allow you to actually pull up on the pedals and can raise your average speed a mph or two. Last year I was doing 20 miles without breaking a sweat however this year, I've only been out once, but got board cause I couldnt lean into any turns (I got used to my motorcycle), so I'm a little behind on my training. The moral of the story, Don't get drunk before you answer a serious question... and also don't get a motorcycle if you plan on riding a road bike. |

Alright listen up because these guys aren't being too helpful. Well toasters is kinda . So what do you want? Fixie, road tires/wheels, gears, clip ins, etc. What is your budget? For a road bike that is a non fixie i would suggest clip ins. They maximize your output and helps make every pedal count. Now if you are going with clip ins i would suggest to not go cheap with shoes. You want a nice shoe that is light weight, comfortable and breaths well. I for one can't help you with clip in pedals or shoes because i am a freerider and do not use them. I for one wouldn't go with a fixie if you are going to be going up lots of hills. They are also kinda of annoying for when you are taking corners fast and want to lean into them because you can't coast, you always have to be pedaling thus making your pedal hit the pavement if you are not careful. As of where to buy bikes, i don't know if you have any used sporting goods stores that sell used bikes. I would check out their but also give this site a look at. -[link]- - Go into the buysell and look at complete road bikes. It is mainly in canada and the us, so just find some bikes that fit your budget that are located near you. If you make a account on the site just go ahead and add me. glas4d obviously. Post the links to what bikes interest you too so i get an idea on what you need/want. Edit: I know you live/near Boston. I found this sick road bike for $700. -[link]- Things i would do to this bike -Sell the bars and throw on some bars with this type of geometry -[link]- -Put on cogs and get some gears. Ok i found you another amazing deal. This bike seems like exactly what your looking for and it is in your price range. -[link]- I am thinking of buying this one. YOU OWE ME!!!! (Not sure if you would drive to New Hampshire to buy a bike but it isn't to far away) Let me know what you think and don't hesitate to ask questions. I also think nostie cycles as well. Thanks Glas, I added you on there. And am actually talking to that person for the trek. Looks like a tune and new chain would be in order for it. Trying to work out a deal with him/her. But I'll still be looking in the long run. Just wish I wasn't so poor. Thanks again for the info! Update: Got the guy to sell all that for $300. Going to check it out on Wednesday, maybe pick it up. Nice!!! The best chains got for like $30-$40 so you aren't looking at too much money. You may need new cogs if you are buying a new chain. That can be around $70. | ||

Yea, I'm not too worried. I'm probably gonna bring it by a LBS to get it checked out, and see whats up. The guy said it does ride as is, but will need a new chain soon. Also, just got back from a 45 min ride. 11 miles. -[link]- |
