Let's say that it wouldn't be very difficult to keep the old FTC server up and running (66.208.104.32). My question to all of you is: do you think a second 24/7 office server is a good idea? I know some hearts were broken when FTC2 was replaced by FTPR, and I'm sure that this idea will go over well with some people, but I'm asking for opinions on the "big picture" consequences of bringing more focus to 24/7 office. This has already been discussed especially in the context of eliminating FTC2 and putting FTPR in place to fuse FT's and bring a common environment where we can get out of our familiar element (office and surf -- gungame did not exist when FTPR was created) instead of exclusively playing one FT server and no other. It seems obvious that niche server formats are why we are successful. Surf and office all have their followings, but should we duplicate one of those formats simply because we know they work? The original FTC2 was easy to deploy because it was simply a matter of setting up mani redirection on FTC1. It makes sense: FTC is full, so redirect people to a (nearly) identical 24/7 office server. This works well in perpetuating our office champs but doesn't lend itself to making our community more diverse. We would definitely see more traffic to our web site assuming FTC2 would have a remotely-comparable amount of connections as FTC (keep in mind this was NOT always true for FTC2), which could lead to more participation in our newer servers like FTG and FTPR. We could, however, try something completely different and branch out to other formats that have not yet been attempted. This could bring new players to our community -- players that would not know about us for the simple reason that they do not play surf, office or gun game. Unfortunately, it could further dilute the limited interest in some of our other servers. I'd rather not say which way I'm leaning because honestly I'm not sure. Any advice? |

i was going to suggest this idea to you and narf. i dont play office much, but i think it would be a good idea to have a different 24/7 server, maybe dust2? people like dust2, and it would get lots of hits. and as you said, something else would bring in different people. maybe a rotation dust 1/2 server. or maybe something different, such as a different map. but i definately think we should have a different 24/7 server then office. | ||

Could we try like an office rotation server, i think that that would be rather interesting and different and it would be a change from regular old office...or maybe we could have like a 24/7 scoutknivez server it seems to me that quite a few people like the map, i know that i do, and it would be interesting to have a 24/7 server for just that just a few ideas hope they help alex Jesus |

scoutznives is the shit. i agree with that one. the office rotation i thought of as well, but i think it would get boring after a while. |

i like knife maps =D im all for knife (includes scoutzknifez, but i just like hardcore KNIFE maps). if u dont want that, i agree with dust 1/2 rotation, and custom maps. knifes i like the most, dust is 2nd, and custom is 3rd (cuz we already got customs on FTG) Edited Mon Sep 25 2006, 11:38PM | ||

Scoutznknives is one of the best maps in my opinion, and before I came to FT I had 2 24/7 scoutznknives servers on my favorites list (they have since dissapeared from existance). But as far as the server goes, I think something different than a 24/7 1 map server would be cool. The more we can spread out our interests, the more people we can draw in. I have to go for now, so I'll keep this breif, but I will further my argument later. |

I like the 24/7 Dust 2 idea. Or you could put just Dust2 and Office on the server, since those two are the most popular maps. Think of it, a De and a CS map, and the most popular ones. For those that want a break from Office that would be a good alternative. | ||
