Oh I'm so down. I still play zombie escape sometimes on CS:S. Never gets old. So down for Office.
Also 15 years for me. Fuck man we are getting old as shit.
Also, loving Back 4 Blood. Highly recommend to everyone who enjoys coop zombie action. I play on steam. gLiTch handle was retired with FT. You can find me as theRemedy on Steam friends.

Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Stats have been reset about every two months for over a year. Latest update on the crashes: No dice on debugging the memory dump and figuring out what function call is crashing the server. I checked if anyone was able to do this on the HLDS mailing list and it still does not appear possible without the help of Valve, and I seriously doubt they will provide assistance. I have reloaded the SRCDS install to get that out of the way, and it has still crashed twice today. At this point it could either be Mani or the equipment on which the SRCDS runs. A support ticket was closed by our GSP and I got the brushoff with them telling me that there is nothing wrong with the server or OS and that the crashes are probably related to either a plugin or have something to do with the latest steam update. The steam update was client side, and I really doubt it has anything to do with that. No one is complaining on the HLDS mailing lists, or on the mani forums with a similar problem (though I need to check the mani forums again to be sure). Unfortunately, the next step is to disable Mani and if the crash occurs again I will press our GSP to either investigate further or move our SRCDS instance to a different physical server. If the crashes stop then the problem is isolated to Mani and I will look for help on the forums there. I've dropped the cs_office_extended server and made it FTC2 again. I'll make a different post about that later. It sucks not having Mani tonight, and I've wasted a lot of time fucking with this over the past few days, but hopefully I will know which direction to go for a solution soon. 11/21/2006 23:06 EDIT UPDATE: The server crashed without Mani earlier (as I was hoping) so I've updated my ticket with our GSP and requested they move FTC to a different physical server tomorrow morning. The IP and port should not change. I'm really hoping this solves the problem... crashing with no plugins loaded at all on a stock CS:S map like office isn't going to be easy to fix if the problem persists. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best tomorrow. Also, thanks to the people that showed up and played with mani disabled this evening. I have since turned it back on and while the server may crash every few hours, at least admins, weapon restrictions, etc. are back in place. Again, the only reason mani was disabled was to prove to our GSP that the crashes are NOT plugin related. I'll post tomorrow, hopefully with good news. Edited Wed Nov 22 2006, 04:04AM |

No problemo, Drunk. I feel obligated to keep everyone updated so you don't think I'm slacking off. No news yet on the GSP server swap. The last note from the support staff indicated FTC would be moved to a different physical server today, but they didn't say when. I requested it done between 8 AM and 2 PM Eastern but that has come and gone... I updated the ticket asking for an update nearly an hour ago and no word yet. If they do move us then FTC will definitely be down for a little bit tonight. I may even have to re-upload all the mods and configuration files as well. If they do not move us then expect at least two more crashes tonight, if not more. Wish I had better news, sorry. UPDATE: From the support ticket: -- On 11/22/2006 6:49:34 PM Pete wrote: Your server is currently moving. The process generally takes about 30 minutes. After that time, you'll be able to view your new ip address within this control panel. -- I'll bring it up as soon as this is complete! 11/22/2006 19:50 NIGHTMARE UPDATE: Alright! So apparently when I ask: "In the meantime, I have a question: if this crashing continues without any plugins would it be possible for you to move my SRCDS instance to different physical server (but retain the same IP)?" ...and you get a response of: "Sure, we can move you to another server." I think that this means, "Sure, we can move you to another server [and as you requested, since it seems very important to you, you will retain the same IP]." Right? Apparently not. They pushed FTC to a completely different server... AND IP address. I posted a question with above quotes (about me asking if it was possible to retain the IP), and haven't heard anything back yet. Not exactly sure what to expect, but I think we may be stuck with this new IP. I'm setting it up quickly, in case we have to stick with it, and the new IP is: 208.100.10.166 If I have any news from the support ticket I'll post it here. Also, on a sour note, I'll be out of town the next few days but I'll try to get as much done as possible tonight. Edited Thu Nov 23 2006, 01:13AM |

Thanx for all the hard work man, its much appreciated. The new server seems to be working just fine, no crashes (that I have seen) and everything seems to be back to normal. Hopefully Steam doesn't decide to release another messed (and useless) update. | ||

The saga continues. A new ticket is in for the crashing. I doubt this interests many people, but here is the complete first ticket:On 11/21/2006 9:56:18 PM alexft wrote: EDIT: Here is the second ticket, I will update as it goes along. On 11/30/2006 10:46:42 AM Pete wrote: Let us know if you notice any problems at all with the server, but it should be fine now. On 11/30/2006 10:42:53 AM alexft wrote: I have reinstalled, and the only changes were to the mapcycle/maplist, and the starting map for the command line. Other than those changes, it's all your default settings. On 11/29/2006 8:37:12 PM Amanda wrote: With all the possible modifications you could have made to your server before altering your server.cfg file, there is no way we could pinpoint any of the minute errors within it, because it is essentially looking for a needle in a haystack. If you could humor us, please do a clean reinstall of your server and make no modifications to it. After it is cleanly reinstalled and untouched, reply to this ticket and we'll check it out to see if there is anything wrong from our side. On 11/29/2006 5:50:16 PM alexft wrote: Pay attention, and reread my comment below: "I did do a complete reinstall anyway, and it had absolutely zero affect on the frequency of crashes." Just as you should have read the first ticket closer: On 11/21/2006 6:20:31 PM alexft wrote: "I did a complete reinstall this afternoon, and the crashing has resumed as before." Twice I have stated that I did do a reinstall. On 11/29/2006 5:41:27 PM Pete wrote: If you never reinstalled your server, then it doesn't matter if you use a "vanilla" server.cfg file. The changes you've made to your server are causing these problems and they will not stop crashing the server until you reinstall your server. If you would like for us to reinstall your server for you to prove this is the problem, we can reinstall your server for you. Otherwise, you can easily do this yourself and you've always had the option to do this. It doesn't matter if you remove the mods that you placed on your server and they are not loading anymore. You still made changes to your server by adding and then removing the mods that are causing these problems. You have tons of additions in your "/cstrike/addons/eventscripts" directory so it's obvious that you have made a lot of changes to your server. Q: How do I reinstall my server? -[link] - On 11/29/2006 5:31:03 PM alexft wrote: l am reporting the continued problem of crashes with my rented CS:S server. The server crashes a few times per day. My last ticket did not accomplish much. I believe the reference ID is TC4108615017520. A recap of what was suggested by the technician and results follows. He started off with the basic cop out to blame the latest steam update: "The last Steam update was released on 11/18, which is going to be the problem with your server. You may want to consider reinstalling your server to verify that all of the configurations are correct..." and "Also, if you have not installed the new Mani Mod version that was released on 11/18, then that will definitely be causing these problems." This reinstall was an interesting angle, considering the 11/16 Steam update was client-side, and the version numbering did not change with servers. This is also interesting because the crashing began over 48 hours after the steam update (yet the server typically crashes at least two times per day since 11/18). I did do a complete reinstall anyway, and it had absolutely zero affect on the frequency of crashes. The idea that Mani was crashing the server was ridiculous. No feedback on the Mani forums support the assertion that was "definitely causing these problems." The next piece of advice: "It's going to be the plugins that you added the eventscripts that's causing the problem. I do not see custom maps in your mapcycle, so I assume you don't play custom maps and that's not causing the problem." Unfortunately, in the previous notes when I said: "The only mods running are metamod and a MMS version of mani mod" I wasn not lying. The crashing occurred with or without EventScripts so I ES was reenabled. Just to make sure that no plugins at all were causing this problem, I ran the server with absolutely no plugins whatsoever and update my ticket with: "Mani mod has been disabled and there are absolutely no plugins running at this time. If it's going to crash, it should happen sometime within the next five hours as it has in the past. I will let you know what happens." Guess what? It still crashed with no plugins at all. Now, the final piece of wisdom imparted by the technician: "Try not to change your settings again to harm the performance of your server, like you did before." This one made me laugh. Performance was never a problem -- in fact, the server has performed really well when it's not crashing. Stability is the problem, and the fact that the technician could not point out what about my settings was so detrimental only reinforces my theory that he just gave up on trying to help. So to humor the technician I used your "vanilla" server.cfg and only slightly modified it. Please look at my server.cfg and point out specific settings in the server.cfg that will cause this SRCDS to crash. In the likely event that you do not find anything that would crash the server I would like further assistance. What can you do to resolve this problem other than blame it on plugins, server.cfg settings, or the latest steam install? Edited Thu Nov 30 2006, 07:45PM |

On the plus side, Pete responded quickly, even though his advise was only the 'standard' initial troubleshooting blah.... I agree with you though, Mani and other plugins do not seem to be the problem. I think that the problem is on the server side. (Just a tidbit of info, don't know if it will help... but I have noticed that after the Steam update, my choke has risen significantly and I 'timeout' more frequently than before the update. I agree that it is server-side in that the stability is in question. Also, the DWP seems to cause problems for the favourite gun combos that I have saved which include the Deagle.(With DWP off of course) Ii don't know if this has an effect. I can't buy gun favourites that have a deagle since its price has risen to almost 13 thou. Last week when the deagle was 8(or so) thou, I needed 16000 to but my scout+deagle+armor+nades combo, so perhaps a glitch is involved whereby some of the DWP is getting through?! Perhaps some of the 'cl_restrict_server_commands "1" ' commands are screwing with something?! Just thought I'd throw that in.) Otherwise, thanks for the hard work Alex, you are doing your best to get the server back to the way it was before this update fucked shit up. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, I just hope that you can work something out soon and the tech support people can get it through their heads that the problem is on their side. It didn't crash last night, but we didn't have much in the way of players on last night either. I think we need to tough it out for one more night to be sure it doesn't crash with a very basic configuration. I understand playing with DWP, no mani, 45 minute round times, etc. is not much fun -- neither is having the server crash a few times a night during peak hours. More features will be turned back on gradually but we have to start off basic and work towards a stable environment. FTC has not gone more than a day without crashing since 11/18. If we tough it out tonight and it doesn't crash that would lead me to believe that the server itself is fine (w/o crashing for the first time, two days straight), and I'll have to begin making small, incremental changes to find out what exact settings cause the crashes. I will give in and disable DWP today, though. I can hardly imagine it would be causing the crashes, and I know how frustrating it is to play with DWP. UPDATE 12/02/2006 20:40 DST: After running for two days without crashes, I made the following changes today: - Round time to 2:15 - mp_limitteams to 1 - 60 minute round time - Installed Mani - FF turned on ...and we had our first crash since the most recent reload (11/30) at about 8:30 DST tonight. This doesn't make much sense when you consider we crashed last week when FTC ran with no plugins (no mani, no eventscripts, etc. -- NO PLUGINS AT ALL). I really don't think it's mani, but I'll probably roll back the last two changes (mani and FF) soon. Wish I had better news... this is really depressing. EDIT: Running a minimal mani_server.cfg, just to see if that, by some stretch of the imagination, has anything to do with it. Edited Sun Dec 03 2006, 02:16AM |

i mean this in the most non-snootish way possible. can't you find a different host provider? i would think after almost a month, they should have been able to solve your problem. personally, i would take my business elsewhere. on a related note: i am willing to put in time and/or money to get this done. depending on costs, i would cover up to 6 months of server time. maybe more. i know someone else who would be willing to chip in as well. bring back my stats and betting! oh, and i'm not trying to take away from all the work you've put in. i probably would have been filling out support tickets IN ALL CAPS by this point, so i admire your patience. keep us in the loop! |
