Content hacking is pretty lame, too. It's a calculated risk in weighing how many players will be upset that they can't have some custom content versus those who will appreciate a proactive anti-hacking measure on the part of FTC Ops. I'm sure many content hackers have enjoyed hopping on FTC to play with red and blue colored model heads, oversized world model guns, and see-through walls. If you ask me, someone who enjoys just playing "the damn game" wouldn't want others to have these unfair advantages. |

Alcohol, my post was in no way attacking the server or the decision to go pure. I was just stating how I felt about it. And it should be obvious to anyone who's played with me that the custom skins I use don't help my pathetic attempts at playing the game in any way. And to answer your question, my sounds are messed up. As in, nothing plays at all, not even Valve defaults. |

Dalton, I didn't take it as an attack and I was certainly not implying that you have been cheating with custom content. As you said, you understand why we are doing this so let's leave it at that. If anyone else is having trouble with sounds and you think it started today (because of sv_pure 1) please let us know. I will investigate this evening when I get home from work. |

Like the owned sound i don't think worked tonight, i didn't hear it but i don't know if you have to turn them on. The regular sound works on there though. | ||

From the Steam website... "The VAC system reliably detects cheats using their cheat signatures. Any third-party modification to a game designed to give one player an advantage over another is classified as a cheat or hack and will trigger a VAC ban. This includes modifications to a game's core executable files and dynamic link libraries." Essentially, VAC looks for hacking programs that alter the ".EXE and .DLL" folders, but does not ban for 'material hacks'. Material Hacks = 1. Overwriting the stock cs_office map with an invisible walls version. Vac won't catch it. 2. Overwriting the Flashbangs/smoke nades with a 'non-flash'/'no-smoke' version. Vac won't catch it. 3. having weapon skins that are 2,3,4 Times bigger than stock so you can see the gun poke through walls. Vac won't catch it. 4. Having gun shot sounds that are Louder than stock so you can hear where it comes from from across the map. Vac won't catch it. 5. ETC!!!! So yeah. sv_pure 1 is like "VAC 3" to prevent material hacks that VAC can't catch and its left up to server owners. Personally, I don't mind playing stock if it means that hackers will have a harder time fucking shit up.

Thanks for pointing that out, Goose. I'm going to try to set aside some time this week to prevent some of the weapon-material exploits you mentioned. | ||
