Looks interesting but I'm trying to avoid additional EventScripts. I glanced at the actual script and I doubt adding this would have much of a perceptible effect on performance, but if we start adding more scripts that all fire on player_death and item_pickup events (among other, more costly events) then it may become very noticeable. I am not completely opposed to adding this script but what happens when the next suggestion comes up for _insert super-fantastic-awesome feature here_? The most influential reason we changed GSP's and moved to a more premium rental was for performance reasons. Scripts, plugins, etc. affect performance. An example of this is the 'hostage_run' script that Goose suggested. We did some testing a few months ago and it was a really nifty idea (see more info on this page if want to know what it does), but unfortunately it had performance costs associated with it. Despite a new version having been released that addressed some performance issues I still noticed an impact on server FPS while this script was running on the dev server as opposed to when it was unloaded. What I'm getting at is that I want people to understand why I may pass on the suggestion of a script. I will look at this knife mod script and consider testing it but I can't promise anything. |
