i gotta go with alexh and aborted on this. Personally i don't care what anyone has in thier name as long as it's not offensive (racist and the like) or they change their name to add to their being an ass. I see no problem with rainman reporting this in a nice manner. Some called him childish for it, but what's more childish, reporting a problem/possible problem or blasting any attempt becuase your afraid to discuss it incase you don't like the result. Yes FT Servers are 18+, not in age but in maturity. But being mature is more than acting a specific way, it's being able to face things openly and takeing the results whether good or bad and moving on. Some people think this thread went too long, but i think it can never go long enough. This small problem and the way i read some responses to it reflect problems that afflict society that people don't want to deal with. Yes Rainman might catch slack for putting "rap sucks" and some say he should just suck it up or not put such things at the end of his name. Why? what has he done? He isn't being childish, the ones who can't read rap sucks without becomeing a douche are childish. So lets say that there is a problem with people abuseing votekick/voteban, do we tell people to suck it up or take it away? Why? What does either accomplish? Part of being mature on the servers is being responisble in useing votekick/voteban to get rid of immature people. Why take that away from mature people, or let immature people who abuse it to get away with it? Neither option addresses or tries to fix the actual problem of immaturity. This is similar to videogame violence, Just because a few people may act upon what they see in a game, some want to ban violent games. But again it doesn't address the problem. The vilence in the games isn't the cause of any incidents, it was just a catalyst to set things off. Bad parenting and overall stupidity is what lead to it. Similarly, "rap sucks" on his name didn't cause this, if everyone was mature there would be no problems with that. I just got off working a double shift and whatnot so i'm tired and i'm not sure if i explained my thoughts on this right. i'll look it over later and make changes. Just let me know if i repeated things or just made no sense? |

Let's not talk about anything on forums! Let's just call people pussies and move on... EDIT: droid, we both posted at the same time, so I didn't see your response when I posted. I agree that addressing the problem is key as long as there is a benefit. Most know I like to blather on forums, but usually there is a goal or objective for keeping a thread going. Sometimes I'm just a sarcastic prick which is inline with this post, pre-edit.  On a more serious note, if someone brings up an issue like this I do remember it. I try to keep tabs on who was involved and how well he or she justified his or her actions. No promises that anything will happen because of a report like this, but when enough of them come in then certain options become obvious. So, to compliment droid's post, keep 'em coming. We need to hear about these sorts of problems. I'm guilty of a certain amount of hubris, but I still need to hear how disharmonious FTC may be at times. Edited Fri Jul 21 2006, 04:49AM |

Hehe Ive had some fun reading this one. Well Rainman doesnt know that Wu is a real sarcastic person (That in mind, he claims he sleeps with his cousin, but who believes him? Unless....) Me and Wu both, have votekicked each other countless times, but Im not worried about it. Yeah, it is stupid to votekick over something like that, but you havent learned how Wu is. Hell, I can insult Wu right now (Haha your penis is small and you sleep with your cousins) But that doesnt neccessarily mean its true. Rain, Ive played with you a good couple of times, and your a cool dude and all, but you got to learn how Wu is. Wu is the man (and my secret sex partner) so you have nothing to worry about.

I see where you're going with this, but Wu does not individually determine how "tough," or how much total jackass ass behavior on his part that everyone has to tolerate to play on FTC. I'm not saying that is your point, verbatim, but how you and Wu interact may not be the prefered mode of operation for everyone else. I certainly do not tolerate that type of behavior when it's directed towards me. |

again it comes back to maturity. While nightrider and wu may be cool with messing with eachother and other freinds with votekick and whatnot, some people like alexh and Rainman might not think it's as funny. So whether done jokingly or not, EVERYONE needs to have a maturity level to stop when someone doesn't go for it, whether or not u think it's a big deal. Like when i call joker or kalibur gay or something, they send something back and vualah... we are cool, we know we're joking. But if i do it to someone who doesn't find it funny or a slight bit humerous in some way, and would prefer i didn't, then if they make it clear (in an appropriate manner as rainman has done here about votekick/ban) then i stop (i may forget who didn't like it every now and then if i don't play with them often ... sorry in advance). But if their ass holes about it and don't show maturity then i'll keep doing it (aka they curse at me for jokingly makeing the remark, yeah i'll try to work it out but if they keep up an assholeish attitude i let em have it ) if someone does something directly affecdting someone in a joking or serious manner (votekick, namecalling, ect) and they don't like it, if they show the maturity to state this in an appropriate manner we need to show equal maturity and oblige them, not tell them to get over it. Think that sums up my point. |

Being votekicked or votebanned is annoying. I can see Rainman's point. Sorry. I didn't expect everyone to follow my actions and I never ment for him to get banned. my apologies Guys, having "Rap Sucks" is not offensive nor is it controversial. I think we are maybe being too touchy here. "Rap Sucks" is not directly offending anyone. Nor does "Rap Sucks" fall under harassment. perhaps What if someone had "Sheryl Crow Sucks"? Are votekicks/bans going to be called? Furthermore, if he had "Sheryl Crow Sucks", are we going to continue to the inane conclusion that what he is really trying to say is that he doesn't like white women? If you guys are turning "Rap Sucks" into a racial issue then "Sheryl Crow Sucks" would mean I hate white women? no and I understand the point you are trying to make. But theres always the possibilty that I am Sheryl Crow. How do you know that im not? If his name read "Niggers Suck" or "Jews Suck", then yes, I would agree that a votekick/ban would be warranted because those would be both directly offensive and harrassing. so would I Who cares that he doesn't like rap? We give players the votekick/ban abilities because there are times when an admin cannot be there to moderate. I'd hate to see that ability taken away because some people abuse it. I saw it as being an ignorant, and I just wanted to express myself. I had no intention of getting him banned Rainman did the right thing by coming here to report this. He decided to act like an adult and try to talk this out. Would you rather he had gotten pissed and decided to mic/text spam or worse tk/ff? Most people try and talk out their problems if it's possible. In this situation, he could have PM'd me and im sure we could have worked out our differences. I know it's my fault and im not trying to beat around the bush So far, Rainman seems like the only person in this situation willing to compromise. I don't see anyone else attempting to help. Compromise what? we have no differences to work out. Wu, I understand that this may have started out as a joke. It's cool. Wu, maybe you and Rainman should "hug it out". What joke? Nobody's going to hurt anybody. You're going to be like two Fonzies. And what's Fonzie like? He's cool. Well obviously nobody's going to hurt anyone. That is why I said we could have worked out our problems via PM. I cant put a gun to his head by reaching into the monitor, so why not try to settle things with the person you had problems with instead of running to the big guys? 1. Votekick/ban can only be turned on/off. It's intended to be a safeguard when admins are not on to police a repetative TKer, spammer, AFK, or douchebag... To avoid being votekick/banned, avoid the aforementioned negative traits. 2. There is a difference between admin abuse and multiple people voting for a kick/ban. An admin can be singled out and dealt with... what retroactive measure can be taken to remedy the situation? Dig up the logs and repremand every player that voted against you? Thanks for bringning up the issue, but you have yet to give us your solution or what you hope to gain by singling out Wu of all people. 3. Rainman, YOU can take some action as well when you felt that you were left holding the bag in the situation. GooSe's Suggestion: a) console: 'reconnect' b) leave the server and change your name, then come back: its like a fresh start c) if that many people don't like what your doing; stop doing it. 4. Voting is available to everyone and sometimes votekick/bans are tossed around as a joke, to get a CT camper moving, as a response by a dead player to a nice shot that got him killed. They are generally a 'heard mentality' or a 'hop on the bandwagon' kind of thing. The domino effect usually starts with one guy being smug and it gathers moss as it rolls down the hill. I don't know where I'm going with this but if I recall correctly, votekick/bans are not permanent, I think they last 30 mins (or maybe an hour). If you get kicked, come back. If you get votebanned, come back in 30 mins. 5. Admins CAN try to deter false votekick/banning in game, but ultimately, can an admin severely punish a voter for exercising his server-given options? It's like punishing someone for typing 'rank' or 'statsme'. An admin could discourage such fraudulant votes, but ultimately, its the word of the people. 6. Emerican backed up his boy by saying, "And yes, stop putting shit like that in your name. If you put something offensive, then people will get pissed!" Didn't you nominate Rainman in the FT forum? Stand up for your boy and don't talk down to a dude that you claim to know in real life. Whether rap sucks or not is not the issue. He has the freedom to express his views, even if Rza/Gza/Method/Golden Arms/Ghostface/Raekwon/Redman/RIP ODB/ or the Wu Tang Clan, Shaolin Style! > (Wu) doesn't agree with it. It's not infringing on anyone else's freedoms and hes not being any more controversial than 'Aborted Fetus' is. But the name you choose has consequences and people might not necessarily find it offensive, they might just look at it as a TARGET and you will be the prey. 7. "fuck your mother in her oily asspipe rainman"... Wu (in the screenshot that rainman provided.) Top drawer and all, a new classic for sure, just inappropriate. Its not right, but its a yo-mama joke and anyone who takes those seriously should not play online games. However, Wu, plz be kind to people who can't take a joke. Oh wait! Rainman as in the autistic fellow Dustin Hoffman played in the movie opposite of Tom Cruise???? Making fun of autistic people, nice. Is that hypocracy I smell? (If there is an alternate meaning to "rainman" that I am unaware of, then I appologize, but the first 3 pages of Google's search reply to 'rainman' refered to the movie.)  |
