wow, i take a random visit back to this site and i find this thread  though i've moved on, it's still sad to see the server where i had such good times finally go under. i'm gonna make sure that wild sees this. miss you guys :'( |

Had to end sometime. I agree with noskill, you guys can shout ideas of "do this, do that" all day on the forums but it doesn't mean a damn thing. You actually have to do something and I don't see that happening anytime soon, hope i'm wrong but just my honest opinion. I won't be switching games i play CSS because it is a free game that i can jump in an play for 20 minutes or 2 hours and not worry about where i left off. With my schedule that is what I need. I'll be around so.. |

Man, it seems like I've missed a lot. I go on vacation to come back to this. I told you guys not to let something bad like this happen! Ugh! I don't understand how other office servers that I have visited stay so successful and a place like ours that used to be that way isn't anymore. I have noticed the ones that are have awps in them, and people just go there to whore the awps. Obviously, most of us aren't like that at all. But we have to figure out some way to get connections back in the server. That is, if we can keep it going. I don't really have any solutions of my own to offer. I think everything has pretty much been said. I have three more days to enjoy FTC if it really is getting shut down when Omni said it was going to get shut down. It's sad. I've been playing there since April 2006, maybe even before that. Gas was still cheap then. And just as this server is going down, gas is starting to go down as well. Dammit, gas! I guess it's just like losing your grandma or something. It's a hard lump to swallow for a while but eventually you just gotta move on. I could offer a suggestion like 24/7 Dust2 and try that out with the money that we have saved, but I don't know if that would work or not. Obviously, a lot of people would like Dust2, but a lot of people wouldn't. I suppose it never hurts to try though. It's been very fun, FTC. I never loved office until I played there. Trying to rebound a server and attract new players when there isn't any newbies or anything like that to help it out is obviously impossible these days. The people that do play have their own servers that they are regulars in, and just probably don't want to look for any new ones like ours. Servers with 24/7 map bases are going to inevitably fail because there are a huge number of them that exist. It's been said many times, and it's the damn truth. Love and miss you, FTC. <33 |

I am disappointed to read this thread. I donated $300 to keep FTC going and offered to continue to pay for the office server as long as necessary to build the connections back up. The move to a new IP resulted in a decline in connections, and I knew it would take time to rebuild. Summer is always slow on all servers, the Olympics are aslo contibuting to the slowdown along with a number of other factors (most mentioned somewhere in this thread). I was willing to cover the cost of getting through the slowdown, into the return to school when, typically, more people play regularly. I was most disappointed that the money to continue operations is still in the bank, but the decision was made to terminate the server contract anyway. As the "granddad" of the clan I have been through several server crisis and have seen very popular server crash and burn and never return. I have operated 20, 24, 32 and 64 player servers. Some have bonbed quickly and some have lasted for years. It is my long experience (and love of FT) that lead me to make the financial offer to carry all costs to keep the server alive. I did so because my experience lead me to believe that FTC would weather the downturn and comeback strong, given enough time and the willingness of the operators to keep it going through their dedication and hard work. With the financial issue a "non-issue" it is a shame the operators were not willing, or able, to make the commitment to outlast the slow times. Even though I only am able to play occaisionally, due to heavy work demands, (gotta make the money to pay the bills) FTC was my primary outlet for the stress of work and RL. I will mourn its passing. |
