Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Hey guys, I just started surfing a day or two ago. Just wondering if anyone has some tips. I'm having trouble with a few things. Gaining speed, making the transition from ramp to ramp(especially if there's a turn), and maneuvering properly in the air. Help is much appreciated =) Thanks |

Ok, not that im a leet surfer or sumthing cuz im not but i do have alot of experience in how to surf and how frustrating it can be to learn. Thechart First lets start with staying on the ramp, there is a time old chart for staying on the ramp, d/\a, which means when ure on the left side hold the d key, the right hold the a. Speed, its what its all about Now im sure u already know that part amped so ill get to gaining speed on the ramp, firstly when entering the ramp stay on the botton edge of it, not to close that u fall off but close enought that u gain speed, now one thing is u have to constantly use ure mouse, thats very im portnant. now if you have gotten blocked, lost all ure speed, or just hit a ramp wrong, a good example would be surf machine were the deagle platform is, the fastest way to regain speed is to crouch and point the mouse at the bottom, again but remember not to severe u dont wanna end up in jail. Exiting the Ramps exiting ramps is also and area where u had trouble. when you are coming to the end of the ramp ure gonna wanna position ure self so that the ramp ends your near the top not the bottom. This transition will be hard at first but once u get it, itll be a piece of cake, make sure though that u dont turn to early, cuz ull lose alot of speed, or turn to sharply cuz u might end up in the wrong direction. Taking Corners Taking corners right was always a toughy for me. First what is your mouse sensitivity at, ure gonna wanna have it between mid and high, now not high like 20, more like lets say starting at 9 and working up to 11 see how that works. When exiting a ramp and you have a corner right to the left or right, a goood example would be the begining of surf leet beta, or rebel resistance. You are going to just fluidly turn ure mouse in the direction you want and land uresled on the mid to top on the nxt ramp, and on from that u just gain ure speed. now you will be leeters flying through the air hardly ever touching ramps but dont be in a rush to that it takes time and patience. Getting wicked sick air, THE FUN PART! This to me is the funnest part of surf getting insane air, man do i just love it! Well like i said when u exit ramps ure gonna wanna hit the end at the top or near top, so what do u do after that to staying in the air, simple just keep ure mouse point in an upward direction as if u were trying to fight gravity, instead of looking down. Now you dont wanna look up so sharp that u lose ure speed of cant see what ure surfing into, ull have to find a median. Well thats all the help i can think of for you but with all these tips, surf still boils down to 3 things, patience, persistance, and having fun, cuz if your not having fun whats the point, the fun part is were alot of people give up because ive tried to personally teach alot of people and because they didnt have the patience and persistance to continue they were never able to get to the fun part of actually knowing how to surf and doing it well. Now leet surfers feel free to add to this as you all still pwn me at surf. |

he basically covered it all. One thing i found worked when i started and had trouble transitioning from ramps was specing other people. I learned that on surf egypt, the first surf map i ever played, and thats part of the reason why im so good at that map. | ||

Thanks a bunch guys. About my mouse sens: I use an MX518, the 1600dpi setting. My normal sensitivity in game is 6, which is pretty fast. The reason for this is that I have absolutely no mouse room. I'm getting a new desk come tuesday though, so this may actually change. So then I must pose a question: When you guys play(surf as well as office), do you actually move your mouse across a pad or surface, or does it just take a quick flick of the wrist to get the cursor across the screen. I am of course the latter. The hard part about it is that I can't move my crosshair carefully enough to get good aim. So should I stop being lazy when I get my new desk, and actually move my mouse? [Edit] Another question: When in the air(specifically during a transition from ramp to ramp), is there some sort of combination between mouse movement and strafing that I have to figure out? A few people have told me not to strafe in the air, but then I find that I have no control over where I'm going. That part really confuses me. Thanks again Edited Sun Jun 18 2006, 06:58PM |

well, graff, covered a lot. One thing he lied about is crouching does not gain you any speed. If you ever sped me, you can see that I reach max speed (when screen starts to "lag") in a short time without crouch, and that if I were to crouch, it wouldn't change any of that. Advanced surfing: When in the air, I use my directionals with a combination of my mouse. If I want to turn left, I would strafe left, then move my mouse so I look left as well. This is for taking turns around sharp corners. Usually when I'm on the right side of a ramp, taking a left turn, I don't let go of my strafe, so I don't loose speed. When doing tricks, like 360s etc. You move the mouse only, this way you only spin, and it does not change the course of your direction. If there is any other questions you have, leave them here, or xfire me at rustyo486, I'll be glad to help. And anyone else can add any other tips here aswell, if I missed anything |
