For as long as I've known them, every Fish Tank server has had a rule in common: No racism/discrimination. Recently, it seems that there has been a certain disregard for this longstanding rule among many players: members, regulars, and pubs, both old and new. This thread is not an expression of my own personal feelings about the matter. I, personally, do not care about racism or discrimination on a game server, because most of it is in jest anyway. The fact is, though, it is, and has been, a rule on this server. As an admin, I am expected to enforce the rule, and so I do. You can IM me, XFire me all you want, call me all sorts of anti-semitic things. See how I react. But do that on the server, where I am expected to uphold a rule, and it will be quite a different story. Thus far I have had no problem being one of the few higher ranking admins to enforce this no racism rule. An issue arises though, when he who breaks the rule is also he who made the rule. Someone please enlighten me: What am I supposed to do when a server operator is running his mouth like he's in the Hitler Youth? Well, what would I do if this person were spawn attacking, rather than being racist? I would probably say "wtf" in admin chat. That usually stops it. I wouldn't try the "wtf" technique in this situation, though. It would simply be ineffective. I would be called "sierra mist" or "oversensitive" or be given some pretentious tutelage on the workings of the great internets. If I'm going to be the only one to enforce this rule, why does it exist? If our server ops are going to make a mockery of the rule and my enforcement of it, why does it exist? If the responses to this post are going to be as childish as I expect them to be, why does this rule even fucking exist? Start enforcing your rules, or start changing them. This is getting ridiculous. |

People who join the server with names like Nazi and Hitler and shit like that are just looking to start shit... they're asking for it. We need to either give it a quick ban, or not be annoyed. In my case, I play along for a while sometimes. If you guys don't like it, I'll tone it down a bit. As you said, it's all supposed to be in good fun. |

Yeah nost, you let that nazi kid stay in the server for like an hour after he was constantly using a swastika spray and shit. It gets old after awhile of having to listen to "burn him, burn her nigger jew" every two seconds from you. | ||

yall aren't getting the point. it doesn't matter if its funny or not, or how far someone takes it. the rule says its not allowed. First sign of racism should be taken care of and have swift punishment for escalation. amped said it wasn't his opinion that its wrong, but its a rule and we as members/admins should enforce it, whether everyone agrees on it or not (which shouldn't happen cause almost everything is voted on anyway) idk maybe the rule should be changed. i don't really care either way, but as long as its a rule, i won't let it go when im in the server |
