I tutor a HS kid and he showed me this algebra problem... 2/(x+1) X (x-6)/(x^2 - 1) if I'm not mistaken, you just multiply top and bottom and get (2x-12)/(x^3 +x^2 -x-1) or (2x-12)/(x+1)(x^2 -1) but his teacher said the right answer was x= -4 which you would only get when you cross multiply if the problem was 2/(x+1) = (x-6)/(x^2 - 1) so...did i miss something or did this teacher fuck up? |

umm.... this is a dying CSS forum... maybe back in its prime you would have a few people willing to answer this question...but in its current state, i highly doubt your gonna get someone who gives a shit enough to actually process this. | ||

i don't think you can cross multiply with a square in the denominator, it'll give you an asymptote, so I flipped both equations got a common denominator cancelled x's and replaced x's on top with 1's then flipped them back it's definitely a negative number. You can isolate x on one side and put everything else on the left side and get a ton of derivatives and shot and I'm assuming you can do that with calculus but I only got up to trig so far. Those types of teachers puss me the duck off.
