One tip: Learn the levels. Point of insertion (Sounds sexual I know, lol). Get headphones, and use stealth (ie. Listen for footsteps, ect.) Another, is instead of aiming for the head (which most people do) try aiming for the left side of the chest or ahead of the moving target (CS:S's hitboxes are messed up, and you actually have to shoot in front of someone). If you shoot on their left side of the chest when they are standing still, your second shot burst should get a headshot. It always works for me, especially when using the AK. Also, like servers like FTC, put your cl_cmdrate at 100.000, cl_updaterate 100.000, ect. I dont know much rate commands but those ones. Good luck with those, those are really all I can offer you, the rates will differ with what computer or what specs it has. | ||

Find a good gun game mod server. This will force you to use every gun and make you a deadly person with whatever you have. Wehnever you feel your skills slipping, play there for a while, and you should get better again. Also, play pleanty of fy maps. fy's are faster than any other map and require for you to make more 1 shot kills. This is because if you empty your clip on any one person, others close by will hear the shots and run right for you. Keeping a full clip is vital to survive. And like Nightrider said, get a good pair of headphones (make sure they have stereo sound). It's amazing how much detail the people at valve put into counter strike. You can actually hear what direction people are coming from (as if it were real life) through the headphones. Do the unexpected, even if it means running away from a sniper like a drunk redneck running from the cops. If you do something that works, do it again. by the third time you do it, the other team will be on to you and will probably set up an ambush. Knowing this, you have a chance to do the unexpected and can probably predict where they are going to try and ambush you, so take a different route and flank them instead. |

Werd, good tips guys. Aim is a really important factor because if you can shoot, you can pwn. Look to improve aiming by messing with your mouse sensitivity, fy maps, gun game, and fixing rates. My personal favourite and mildly underused strategy would be to go onto an empty server, or press 'new game' or whatever it is on the main CS:S title page, and play solo for a bit. This is where you pull out the 'target' spray and spray it on a wall in the distacne, or around a corner and work on some moves. Then you can run up to it and see how your shots landed. I implemented this a few days after I bought Source because initially, the aiming was wayyy different compared to 1.6. When I first started playing FTC, the AWPs were restricted but I really loved to AWP. I actually gave up the AWP altogether and implemented this strategy again to learn the scout. I gaurantee that if you put in a few solo sessions, your moves and aim will be improved. Work on shooting around corners quickly. I hate it when a dude with a shotty will pop around a corner and blast within a split second. DANG! Get good with cheap guns. Money is key, always buy armor/helmet when possible. Nades are crucial and a strong secondary or a pistol that you're comfortable with is key. Deagle shots have saved my ass more times than I can count. Know how much money you have, and know how much each gun costs. Buying the right combo at the beginning of the round is absolutely key. For instance, you have $1500 to spend. Some people might opt for a cheap SMG like a TMP or a MAC10 and ammo. Personally, I opt to grab armor, deagle and full ammo for it. Now you can stay back a bit and pick up a dropped weapon(lets say an AK), have armor, and a strong secondary. In the same situation, a guy with a TMP/Mac might pick up the Ak, but be armorless and with the stock pistol. So money management is key. Have a gun that you are confortable with in each weapon category. Popular choices would be deagle, MP5, M3 shotty, AK/M4, AWP, Saw. Getting familiar with certain guns will help out huge when you get into a spray battle. Know the tendancies of the gun's spray and its direction, and it's rate of fire. (P90 compared to Ump for instance.) It can save your ass when you least expect it. Burst vs Spray. Burst with rifles, 1,2,3 shots from a distance and aim for the head. With SMG's, spray more often because they have quicker fire-rates and are less powerful and are seldom a 1 shot HS kill. (especially when the guy is wearing a helmet) Spray is a good thing close range but don't try spraying too much with weak guns from long distances because its more risky. Remember that recoil important. When using a rifle like AK/M4/.50 Cal Saw and your spraying, the kickback will want to raise teh aim upwards. Aim mildly down with your mouse to counter the recoil. With that being said, try implementing a strafe with your crosshairs head-high and drop a 'crouch' to improve accuracy. Its a better way of dodging shots than say jumping. When someone is spraying at you, teh recoil makes the attacker's gun shoot slightly upwards. Jumping into it doesn't help and when you land, death is imminent. But be careful because if its a close range sprayfest, as you crouch you could get popped in the head a bit more easily and essentially 'duck' into the fire, especially around a corner. Crouch from a distance or in a strategic spot because accuracy increases especially with a scoped gun. But beware when crouching with a scoped AWP because it limits movement and you can get 'caught on the crapper' so to speak. Stick with teammates and be sure to find a noob to use as a meatshield or distraction. Be aware of where teammates are and if they get killed, it gives you a heads-up. Radar is key and approximating where teammates died combined with a walk could mean a nice flank. Take note of AFK's and when they die. When teh opposing team enters spawn, they always rush to get the easy kill, but it also gives away their location. Key time for a flashbang? The whole idea is to dish out damage while limiting the oncoming bullets. Being stealthly can be key in some situations or rushing can be the right move. This comes down to personal preference and the situation. Know the tendencies of the people you are playing with and keep a finger close to teh TAB (or whatever button you have bound to 'scoreboard') and know how many and who is still alive. I know my stuff was pretty elementary, but brushing up on some fundamentals is always a good thing. Specing good players in-game can help with strategies but ultimately, its about finding your own style and working toward your strengths while not exposing any weaknesses. It takes time to get to be a well-rounded player and it all starts by working on one aspect at a time. I don't claim to be leet or anything, its just late and I can't sleep and feel like typing. I hope I helped a little. Jah Jah Bless. Edited Tue Jul 25 2006, 10:10AM |

Good job goose. I knew someone would post the stuff, but I was too lazy ><. Oh yeah, this has helped me SO MUCH - cl_crosshairscale 5000. It makes your crosshair smaller so it's easier to aim at noobs' heads. |
