Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Motorcycle or New Computer I've got $1,500 to spend and have been wanting both of these for a while now. Now I know you're thinking "what kind of pos bike can you get for 1500?" Well It turns out a used 1994 kawasaki ninja is around that price, and is said to be a great beginner bike (me not having any motorcycle riding experience). Anyway, to help me out with my decision, I have made a list of pros and cons for both items: Motorcycle . Pros = I've wanted one of these since I got a car; great beginner bike; I do a lot of commuting, so getting 40 - 60 mpg will really save me a lot of money; I've seen these on craig's list for $800 (especially now at the end of motorcycle season); I have an extra garage for it; Its a motorcycle, all kinds of chicks will want rides with me Cons = I have no riding experience, but I do plan on taking a 15hr class (that gives you a license when you graduate) even if I do decide to go with the computer; that class costs around $300 (info -[link]- ); after insurance, excise tax, registration, inspection, asshole tax etc it will definitely cost more than the computer; I can only ride it 6 months out of the year (new england), and only on good days; live off a windy road with a lot of potholes (but I see bikes on it all the time, so minor detail there). Bottom Line = A motorcycle will save me money on gas (especially now that it's over $4 a gallon), but I still feel like it will be a drain on money for me. It will also be difficult to take the riding classes alongside with school and work... but think of how cool it is to show up anywhere riding a bike. Computer . Pros = I can build a rockin computer for 1500, that will last for years and can be highly upgradeable for the future; I'll be able to play tf2 with more than 10fps; It'll be my toy to try new Linux operating systems on; I'm an IT major, so building a computer from scratch would be a great thing for me; Cons = I have no place to put a new desktop; my electricity bill is already ridiculous without another 1000W power supply; I don't really "need" a new computer yet, my laptop is still pretty capable; I'd probably cease to have a social life for a while; I've never put together a computer myself before, but I'm still pretty savvy about it Bottom Line = I purely want a new computer (don't need it). Mostly because the keyboard on this one is fubar (i know i can replace it, but i don't feel like sending it back to HP for a week, especially with school starting soon). Also I hear a lot of improvements are coming out in september, so I might be better off waiting till then to build a computer. So what do you think? Which would you choose?

Def computer. Considering the fucked up weather we have a bike is just a bad idea. I wanted to get one myself but its just not worth it around here. Edited Sat Aug 23 2008, 10:10PM

Honesty I have to say I'm leaning towards the bike. I didn't put that in my first post cause I wanted your unbiased opinions.

Seeing how you can barely ride your motorcycle during the year and how it'll probably cause more trouble than solve, with schedules and cost, I'd go with the computer. Yeah, it's really cool to be able to cruise in with a motorcycle, but I don't think it's worth the trouble if you won't ride it much. You can always get the bike later, when you have an easier schedule to work with and some more greenbacks in your pocket. A computer would last longer and like you said, is easily upgradeable. Just my honest opinion. |
