CS:Go Surf Server (I need your input)
bleek, Fri Aug 31 2012, 05:45PM
Would you guys like to play Surf in CS:Go? I'm considering starting up a server but first I'd like to know if there would be much interest in it.
I see the source surf server is empty a lot, but I figure that perhaps a good Surf Server on CS:GO would spark some traffic, especially since there are not a lot of surf servers running yet.
So what do you say? If FT got a surf server, would you play on it? Yay, or nay?

Hell fucking yes. I'll even chip in a few bucks a month if money is an issue

The websites I found for hosting servers are pretty cheap. I don't know if they are shitty or something. But most that I saw offer 18 slots for around 20 bucks monthly, which is cheap. But perhaps some of the server OPs can weigh in and say who they use as hosts, maybe paying more is necessary.

I haven't enjoyed the few times I surfed in GO. I was going to wait for better maps and more updates to start one. No way valve can ignore it's best "mod" since 1.6? They'll eventually make adjustments for surf to run a little more smoothly.

We use NFO. They're okay. Gameservers.com is garbage, don't go with them.

I used Gameservers, and I think that's what Knight and Alex use as well. They're pretty cheap, about a dollar a slot, and they have pretty decent customer service

Yeah, I played great river and skyworld. My only concern about waiting for Valve to fix this is that we lose the opportunity to build a base. People who are serious about surf already are looking for servers, even shitty ones. If they get used to playing somewhere and Valve comes out with updates they will most likely stick to the community they know. If we enter the scene to late, we will lose players.

Gameservers is crap, I'll agree with that.

The price isn't much different. NFO looks good.

You know you'll have to go through the whole nomination and all the checks and balances to be affiliated with FT right? And considering the clan's "love" for surf, which is all talk and no action, I can't see it working out at the moment. Just a heads up.

That's fine. I'm trying to get a feel for what the interest in a thing like this would be first.
EDIT: Where would I find all those procedures? Is there a sticky?

I'd be somewhat interested. Once GO game out I haven't surfed and I've barely been on FTC source... I wouldn't play regularly, though.

Here

It is very simple. Start a server, make a proposal, 5 day vote, more yes votes than no votes, voila!

Also, you DO make a valid point about starting one up at the very beginning regardless of glitches (lol chuckle). You will be "in" on the monopoly of Surf since there are really no servers.
However, as a common courtesy, we already have a surf server and i suggest you talk it over with Rusty in private.

I know, but we can have an office source/go and surf source/go combo. I figured he wouldn't mind. I sent him a PM but never heard back from him so I made this thread.
Rusty, if you have any problems with my doing this or would like more input on where this goes from here let me know either here or via PM.
Glitch, that link you posted takes me the main forums. I may not have permission to view the forum or something. I may have been taken out of the necessary user group after being absent from the clan for a while (read 4 years)

I'm game for a GO surf. I think the main reason css surf is empty all the time is simply nobody really plays css as much now that GO is out. All it takes is one or two people to populate a server for the night, and like what has been said so far, there are surfers out there now looking for a place to call home. Look how many unique visits we are getting on Office right now.

Bleek, sorry I haven't been able to respond to your PM. It is a question that requires more time than I have to answer the past few days, which is why I've been sitting on it. We can chat in source one day this upcoming week!

Understandable. I will catch you there sometime!

Please please please do not start that here. Talk to him about this on Steam chat or something. Do not derail this thread with personal problems.

Rusty is not pissed. Bleek is correct, message him via PM.
Bleek, that link sends you to the FT Community forum. I see now why you cannot see it. I will change the permission settings. Now i remember why i changed it to view by all. It was so newcomers could see the requirements to get into the clan.
BTW, clan members can see it, and i could have sworn you were a clan member. To make the server affiliated with FT you must be a clan member first, then start a proposal for the server.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Heyo, just updating you guys.
I have been running a server to see how traffic is/whether CS GO attracts many surfers and these are the server connection statistics so far. There are times when the server is empty, but i have been seeing activity as well.

Well, what was an early boost, ultimately fizzled. There hasn't been a connection in over a week. It seems like there are a few very popular surf servers and people flock there.
The times the server would fill up is if one or two people would stay on, and gather people. But it rarely did this without me or a friend populating the server by sitting in spec for an hour or two.
I don't think this server idea is good after all.

if we are to get a GO surf server i would totally be down and would make time to populate it throughout the week
