Non MOTD Rules
bleek, Sun Sep 24 2006, 05:15PMI have witnessed on the server, when ever a map goes on, for example skate park, some rules of the mouth go into play. Like "no killing before the gate" or things of that nature. I belive personally, that it does damage to the server in a couple of ways.
1) It confuses players. If I join a server, read the MOTD, kill, and get slayed, without braking an MOTD rule, I would be confused. Often times, I have seen somebody do it 2 times, get slayed/kicked. Then some other person does it, for the first time and gets banned becouse an admin get tired. It's confusing to players who have just joined, or are playing for the first time.
2) Too many restrictions take away from the fun. I understand the MOTD and it is more then right. Everyone should follow it. But when we make up rules to maps, that just fit our situation it takes away from the fun. Again using skatepark as an example. It is a smal map in which we are having a "race" to guns. On the way we should be able to knife, which is fun. That is the intention of the map.
3) It loses people. When we, as admins enforce rules that were made up, by a few people, and aren't set in stone, it comes off as admin abuse. People do not like that and leave.
What I am saying is, we shouldn't make up extra rules for individual maps. Just stick to the MOTD, for the sake of the server, and the people who play on it.

the thing about that is that the rules we make help us play longer. On bedroom, if we kill at the cereal bowl, nobody gets to surf the rest of the map. same with skate park. if you get knifed at the platform, you dont get to surf

DarkNarf told me wisely, "our servers are a good atmosphere becouse we do what is best for people, rather then ourselfs" or something along those lines, I have really bad memory. Anyhow, is confusing players to their best interest? Let them just play the game, with our simple to follow MOTD, and not spam them suddenly when the map changes "NO KILLING BEFORE THE BOWL!!!!!", and slaying them becouse they joineda second after, and didnt see the spam. Keep the atmosphere nice, dont make up bogus rules, that comfort, a few people. Think of the majority who wants to kill.

You're missing my main point. Too many rules and restrictions, take away from the fun. The MOTD as it is now, is PERFECT. We shouldn't be making up new rules. The fact that they are no in the MOTD just adds to the confussion, so I guess if they really are THAT important, they should be added. But most of them are silly rules, for comfort.

So we as admins, tell them. We know them by heart. This is going off topic thou. Why should admins make up rules, that arent listend in the MOTD, is the main point.

hell i wouldnt mind skatepark and halfpipe being off server but a surf_bedroom cereal bowl rule needs to be added to motd.

Eumm i read somewere that when there ias a admin on. He/she should always be last out of spawn to make sure there are no rule breakers
And about what bleek said, i dotn mind skatepark really (well i hate it) but if we enforce teh noraml rules then there shouldnt becamping no teh platfrom and ganking ppl there, knifing on teh way is allright in my oppinion
But about teh cereal bowl its pointless to let people kill there you get tehre you get aload of m4s/aks and kill everyone and teh round ends in like 20 seconds. And then loads of ppl spam text so isnt it better to go with teh majority of people no teh server and please them so if someone does leave its like 1 person instead of 3-4?? and when you do say no killing at bowl the people who did normally say soory dint know then go along with it "happy as larry"

I realize this isn't about the admins feelings, but we are also players, and some of those little side rules help prolong an admins life till they are out of spawn. I agree with bleek, and with lep on these topics, that, skatepark sucks and needs to go, and the cereal bowl rule is great because without it, bedroom dies, and it is a good map.
