It's not that "i don't wanna be tied down", it's that I don't think I can think about other girls this way, and still love my own. I think there's a lot more I could, and should experience, and I can't do that with this girl. (or any ONE girl) kd. wrote ... However, sometimes I feel like the love I feel is blinding me from other things going on. The sad thing is, if anything happened, you will miss her and if you had another lifestyle, you would WANT to be tied down again. I know EXACTLY what you're going through, because I'm 17, going through the same shit. Except I'm a pussy, and will always fold because I'm the only one in her life and I would constantly worry about her, but yours would be okay. that's why I'm saying drop her easy, and live out your life for a while. Go to college and experience shit. |

So if you haven't figured it out by now my goal is to know as much as possible. I don't want to be especially knowledgeable in any one category or field, but I want to know alot about alot. So I've done some dream studies. When I was in high school I had a fascination with Lucid Dreaming (google it). I got to the point where I could vividly recall all of my dreams and gain conscious awareness of when I was dreaming, but stopped pursuing it before I could actually consciously affect my dreams. A mild regret. However I am still fascinated by dreams. So much so that I've begun reading:  But I've had to stop to pursue some other reading material (the manufacturing company stuff - currently reading The Toyota Way, great book if you're into manufacturing) But what I can tell you from what I've read thus far is this: 1) Dreams do have "explanations". All dreams can be interpretted, also the ability to use the creative imagination (a forward thinking process) is thought to be impossible when asleep. All of your dreams are based in some reality, usually a combination of past events (often unrelated) events manifesting themselves into seemingly "new" memories or images. 2) There are 4 major effects on dreams: External Sensory Stimuli, Internal Sensory Stimuli, Internal Physical Stimuli & Psychic Sources of Excitation. Examples of each respectively, sounds & noises, internal memories of sound & noises that still seem real to the dream, limb & body positioning & memories long since forgotten "subconcsious thoughts". That's pretty much all I've gotten to. But there's a few more things, dreams will often occur about events 3-5 days after they happen. If you remember a dream, think back to see if the actual event occurred 3-5 days earlier, odds are it did. Dreams are not divine premonitions, they are not a tool for predicting the future or unlocking your most inner thoughts, they simply are a natural phenomenon that "keeps the brain occupied". You see your brain never shuts off, if it did, you would be dead. Dreams are merely an extension of your waking thought, however once unhibitted by your active conscience they have the ability to literally wander your brain. There is no direction or goal, however they can be influenced and with enough practice controlled. (Lucid Dreaming) To answer your questions though: 1) Do not break up with your girlfriend because you're dreaming about Shawn Johnson. That's stupid. If you want to break up with your girlfriend, use whatever the REAL reason is to do it and don't delude yourself into thinking it was for any other reason. 2) Yes your dreams do "mean" something, but 95%, that something is insignificant. Literally a fancy of thought, no different that your typical mind wandering day dreams. Certain memories and influences that have had larger impacts on your life MAY present themselves as more apparent in your dreams. But this is merely something to note and make a point of. "Wow I think I really like SHawn Johnson." but you could of come to the same conclusion without even looking at your dreams. 3) However, and Freud reccommends this, if you do feel that your dreams are particularly vivid or purpose filled. Or that your subconcious is truly trying to tell you something the ONLY way to get to the bottom of such thoughts is PROFESSIONAL (not an internet gaming community) psychological help. This is what psychologists do, there are numerous methods to analyze, explore and pinpoint certain aspects & depths of the subconscious. Techniques including but not limited to: Conscious Self Exploration through Q & A, Dream Interpretation & Hypnosis. But without a trained professional to help guide you through your subconscious you could do further harm if an "unpleasant" or deeply disturbing event or occurrence happens to present itself (in the form of a repressed memory). Few tips from my 21 years of life. 1. If a dream is causing you to rethink about if you love someone, feelings can't be that strong. 2. If thinking about other girls make you doubt you love someone, stop being a fag, you know how many times I've rubbed one out to another girl while dating? 3. Honestly, at 17, you are missing out, I spent my highschool years dating instead of fucking around, I mean, now that I'm in college, chicks come and go more often than I'm on surf. 4. Never cheat. As much as the idea, no harm no foul, what mama doesn't know won't hurt her, it will hurt you inner integrity. Dating multiple chicks and being steady are two different things, it's ok to bang two girls while dating both of them, since you're not exclusive, but once you hit that stage, it's game over on the other pussy market. In this day and age, it's hard to fuck around on a girl in high school, and most college (if you're exclusive) for the fact that gossip is the #1 information learned in school. But really, if you are questioning your feelnigs about your girlfriend over a dream, then you really need to sit down and think, or sit down and talk to her. See how it goes. I'm not saying go and say "I don't know if I love you" but go and just talk to her, and then after that, asses the situation. |

P.S. Love is an abstract concept. It's not a real physical property. Love means to you what it means to you and likely means different things to different people. "Not uh... it means to do anything for anyone." No that's devotion and loyalty and subservence to a certain extent. "It means to care for someone uncoditionally." Ok I can perhaps accept this answer. Unconditionally. If this person were to get into a car accident & become a disfigured cripple, would you still stay with them??? If the answer isn't a resounding "Yes, yes I would." then guess what? You don't "love" them. At least by that last definition. |
