I feel the same way with my music. My playlist wouldn't be complete without Rise Against, Lost Prophets, Thrice, Swear By This, InnerPartySystem, Alkaline Trio, Linkin Park, and Pillar. Yes I know most of these are mainstream now but I'm saying you should check out their older shit because it hates faces and eats children not their top 40 BS which is usually the worst songs on their CDs imo. I'd list my locals but unless you get their demos off me you won't find shit online. If you do like any of the artists I listed then I can tell you other ones that sound like them.

Prophets, Rise Against, and Alkaline Trio were so high school. But they are still really good.

I'm just not all that into punk/ska like I used to be.

I'm looking for ROCK music. Or an off the wall kinda rock band (Chili Peppers, Mars Volta, Portugal the Man, etc). I am not interested in any form of techno, but show me what this trip hop is and it might be what I'm looking for.
