Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

So, I'm writing a 7 page paper on whether or not Mexico is a failed state, in my eyes. I've leaned towards no, even though there is a huge warning sign it could turn into one. If anyone happens to be a scholar on Mexico and has good resources to some information on political corruption, drug war (including America's take in it), human needs and the governments supply or lack of supply of them, and anything else that would make a good argument why they are or are not, and maybe where they are heading? I'd be very appreciative of you for life! Also, here is my thesis, it's a work in progress. Fund for Peace created a “Failed States Index” in 2005 which has been published annually by the United States Think Tank and in the magazine Foreign Policy. This index bases its list off of social, economic and political aspects, creating a 12 point system with a scale of 0-120. This list only assesses sovereign states in accordance to membership with the United Nations, totaling 177 countries. After being assessed, the countries are placed in brackets, highest to lowest, and listed in four categories: Alert (highest), Warning (2nd highest), Moderate and Sustainable. In 2008, Mexico was listed in the yellow or “warning” bracket at number 106 with an overall score of 72.2 on the 120 scale. I personally do not believe Mexico is a failed state, but do feel there are warning signs that it could become one if continuing down its current path. |

So, in my spare time of insanity after researching Mexico for days, I've come up with this paper, I may just hand in to my teacher, tell me what you think: "Once taking a class on the history of Mexico, Brian O'Neil went insane, acquired a few atomic weapons and descended his wrath on the crap hole that was Mexico. It is now better off as a barren waste land of radiation than it was before O'Neil" also, thanks for the advice KD, but I had to cite my sources, which for my intro is the FFP (fund for peace website) so he can go check it out. No one knows anything about drug trafficking/war, human trafficking, lack of basic human needs like water, the education system, the economy? WHERE IS BANDITO WHEN I NEED HIM!? |

Rusty wrote ... WHERE IS BANDITO WHEN I NEED HIM!? Definitely a failed state. Drug cartel has bought out the government. Economy is in the shitter. Crime is rampant. There is no control. |

Swine flu will hurt mexico... simply because they just dont have the health care to keep people alive. Bandito is right. Drugs own the government (if there still is one) and its on its way down. Since they are connected to us, i think we should completely cut them off and secure our borders even more. More of their problems are going to spread to the U.S. in due time. No control = Fail I would put it at 100 on that scale of yours. Its not completely failed, but its pretty fuckin close. |
