John Wayne had an incident on the campus of USC that puts it best. In August of 1965, Wayne was visiting his old college campus at USC. There he witnessed a group of antiwar protestors setup with tables and posters heckling a young marine in uniform, dressed with combat ribbons. John followed the marine to thank him for his service to the country, and found out the marine had lost his arm to a Vietcong booby trap. After leaving the marine, Wayne rushed to the antiwar protestors' table and yelled “You stupid bastards! Blame Johnson if you must, blame that sonofabitch Kennedy; blame Eisenhower or Truman or goddamn-fucking Roosevelt, but don't blame that kid. Not any of those kids. They served! Jesus, the kid's arm is gone!” Also, for anyone comparing this "war" to Vietnam, might be best to do your research. Sure, there are similarities, but overall, this is nothing in comparison to Vietnam. We at least have an idea of who we are fighting, when in Vietnam, we had no clue. That was the highest frag war in history. Our reason for being there is more sound than in Vietnam. Our reason for being in Vietnam was because we didn't want to lose ground in Indochina to the commie bastards. In reality, all of Vietnam, north and south (I bet you didn't know that we created the two "zones" of Vietnam) wanted to be united under a communist regime. Also, to deo. He never said our troops were fighting for our freedom. He said: It's the very least thing we can do for someone who is risking their life everyday for the right of freedom. |
