Ya there's no quick way and I'm skeptical as to how much I trust the powers that be to keep mostly imaginary things like the stock market going... But if you wanted to follow past advice, it's set up a mutual fund that tracks the total stock market index. VTSMX is the one I use ($3,000 initial investment I think), then dollar cost average (invest) $100 every month automatically into it. Make sure you call Scottrade and have them send you the automatic investment form from Vanguard so you only pay $2 per transaction and not $7. (5% right there) Then wait... 5 years it'll prolly be worth... between $12k-$15k netting $3k-6k on the $9k invested. Or you can read the 2nd book peace posted (The Intelligent Investor) and literally hand pick your own stocks and make your own investment decisions. Which, if you have the stomach for it could yield 20% returns. Or 100% increase over the Index (set at 10%). That's all assuming the country keeps on trucking and we don't like default on our debt or... I dunno go to war with China (who we owe most of our debt to). If that happens, well then you should invest in ammunition and MRE's... seriously. |
