Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

I just found this on Reddit. Everyone should know about it. I wish i did sooner. -[link]- That is the article i read about it. He is my new hero. Website is crypto.cat For those who do not like to read: Simple browser based chat service that encrypts all information. First of its kind. Wanna say something to someone but are scared because corporations or governments might be watching? Not anymore (hopefully). EDIT: Anyone who knows how to code and all that bullshit... his coding is open source. Anyone who wants to see how he pulled this off and anyone who wants to tinker with it himself can do so. His work can be used on other websites too. Edited Sat Jul 28 2012, 01:02AM |

What does it use? It says you don't have to worry about SSL issues which I assume they me rewrites... Wonder how long it will last.

I think it said AES 256 The beauty behind this is that not even cryptocat knows what you're writing. It is encrypted as soon as it leaves your browser. Nobody sitting in between will know what it is unless they are in the chatroom. The keys are given only to the people in the room (which you yourself create) and you hand out the link. This used to be impossible to do with browsers but this kid cracked it. Edited Sat Jul 28 2012, 02:00AM |

This is going to sound extremely stupid, but can someoe explain to me what exactly an "encrypted web browser chat" is? Like in simple simple terms, I don't seem to understand it

ON the main page of that website crypto.cat there is a video explaining it in really "simple simple simple" terms. Basically, everything you type in the chat room to a friend is automatically coded secretly while it travels over the internet and through servers and bounces off of satellites... and then when that coded data reaches your target friend, only his PC has the key to unlock that code and reveal what it is you typed. Every new chat generates a new key and random number and yada yada. Every hour that data is deleted as well so nobody can grab it afterwards. While that coded information is traveling to your friend, it can be intercepted by corporations and governments...however, they will not be able to figure out what it actually says unless they spent months and possibly years using a supercomputer to try and decode it. There are these kinds of things everywhere...but never were they browser based. You always needed a program and other shit to do this. This browser based shit makes it quick and easy for anyone to do it. Other security things like SSL is very vulnerable by corporations, hackers, and especially governments. Information is only encrypted server side and anything between you and the server can be read (server being midpoint between you and your friend...think of it as Fish Tank Classic...what you do goes to the server and then back to another player on another PC). This browser based encryption prevents that and practically makes it impossible. Even Cryptocat doesnt know what you write in the chat because as soon as it is sent, it is coded. Review the video on the page for visual understanding. Edited Sat Jul 28 2012, 04:34AM |

I heard about this a little while ago from one of my more shady friends. Pretty cool system, but both end users still cant neglect their own security. Chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and in this case it can be broken with someone as simple as a key logger.

I am checking this link out now, very interesting. I currently use AIM for encrypted chat. Here is some important info about it: AIM SSL (encryption) is in plain text at the AIM servers. it is not secure. Pidgin is an AIM client that is open source not made by AOL. Off-The-Record is a plugin for pidgin that allows for key based encryption over chat, and its free. Make sure logging is disabled, and you can really say anything you want on this. I am testing out cryptocat now tho, very thanks for the link w00t! |
