| This riddle is totally screwing with me.. | ||

3 businessmen are on a trip and share a hotel room for the evening. The bill comes to 30 dollars so each businessman pays 10 dollars. They head up to their room and the cashier realizes he's made a mistake. He forgot that he should have only charged the businessmen 25 dollars. The cashier then instructs the bellboy to run up to the room and refund the 5 dollars to the businessmen. The bellboy realizes that the businessmen cannot easily split the 5 dollars between the 3 of them. So instead he pockets 2 dollars and returns 3 dollars to the businessmen. Each businessman gets a dollar back. At this point each businessman has payed 9 dollars out of his own pocket, making a grand total of 27 dollars paid for the room. Combine that with the 2 dollars that the bellboy kept yields 29 dollars. So, where's the missing dollar? |

well....this is quite the play on words...i bet no one can come up with an answer to this that everyone can agree on but heres my theory... logically -$30 to the hotel -$2 to the bellboy -$3 to to the men gives us $30 the hotel gets $30, then gives the bell boy $5. now the hotel has $25 and the bell boy has $5. the bell boy keeps $2 and gives back the 3$ hotel money (25) + bellboy money(2) = $27 $27 from the hotel and bellboy + $3 to the men= $30 no missing money |

This is a good riddle it even has me confused (man who loves riddles). Most I can get out of the math is if thye orignaly paid they owuld have paid 8.33 about (since 1/3 is infnatly continuing) I will have to think on this for a while. I've seen this before. The answer is that you are counting both forewards and backwards. most people have seen others do the "trick" where they hold up ten fingers and count "ten, nine, eight, seven, six" and they get to their 5 fingers and say LOOK! i have six fingers! This goes on the same principle. |

9+9+9=27 + 3 (the men get back) = 30 2 dollars is courtesy of the hotel... because the room was supposed to have cost 25 dollars. |
