About a month ago (shortly after getting Battlefield 2142) my computer started having problems. My mouse would die randomly ever 20 to 30 minutes or so. Once every few hours my keyboard might go out too. I tried everything I could. Reinstalling drivers for them, uninstalling the drivers completely, etc... Nothing I worked would stop these things from happening. I would go through my system, removing stuff the the autostart list and stopping all processes I didn't know. There were to major ones that I had never herd of before I noticed though. PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe: from the names I can assume you know what they are for. See the people who make PunkBuster had a brilliant idea (/sarcasm)! Since our program SUCKS at catching hackers in game, lets make it run out of game! (/rolleyes) I tried ending the processes (which did work) but my mouse problems would not go away. At the time I did not think these were the cause. I couldn't find out where they were running from though, this annoyed me greatly. After some looking around on Google, I found that BF2 and BF2142 automatically installed PunkBuster as a service that runs automatically without your permission! I did some more searching and found a program that removes these annoyances from your system (and its made by the PunkBuster team!) -[link]- After removing them I still had problems UNTIL I restarted my system. I have been problem free since, until today! I haven't played 2142 since I fixed this problem but I tried to today. While playing the problem started up again and I exit to find, you guessed it, PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe running and the services reinstalled. I make this post to warn you because I spent weeks trying to find a nonexistent problem. I hope this thread helps someone out. Also note that ending these processes while in a server will cause you to be kicked after about 15-30 seconds. Have a great Saturday everyone! -crazyassmonkey |

Great, I have it as well. Although I never play BF2142 anymore. I think I played it a good 7 times after I bought it. Yeah, what a waste of my money. Seriously, only game I play on my PC is CSS. Sad, but it's true. | ||

Sweet! Now I can have butt secks with you again  And I never wanted to get BF2142 because: 1) It came out too fast to be good, they released it like a year or less after BF2 came out (not including the expansion). 2) It looked like shit when I saw it, this thread is just even more of a reason I shouldn't get it. 3) The graphics and gameplay had almost NO improvement; same game, different setup. i agree with everything noname said. but heres my post. assmonkey it was funny because when i had a problem with steam i did the same excact thing. end processes, stop autorun programs, and remove programs =P well i finally used some random program and i had no idea what caused the problem. but it was fixed so w/e xD |

Perhaps the Logitech Setpoint application that came with the G5 is setting off a false positive and Punkbuster is registering it as a hacking app? | ||
