Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Hey it's toasters, and I decided it's about time to pimp my ride (by ride I meen crappy honda with far less horsepower than a man deserves). Now that I have a reliable source of income, I have been considering to buy a nice subwoofer for my trunk. I'm looking at the $100 to $150 range (a little on the expensive side wouldn't hurt). I have some basic knowledge from my friends that JL, Punch, Alpine, and Kenwood are all good brands, so I'd like it to be one of their products. Right now I'm looking at either the Rockford Fosgate punch stage 2, or the Alpine Type-R, but I am very open to suggestions. Also I have no clue what to look for in an amp. Anyone want to help me on that I'll go do my research and get back to this thread to see if anyone has any suggestions.

When I was younger I used to have the most bitching ass system. My system was worth more money than my 1995 Ford Escort. When the bass hit, it was so powerful my freaking headlights would dim.

WHAT EVER YOU DO TOASTERS DON:T CHEAP OUT ON THE AMP>> ITS WHAT MAKES THE SOUND...the speaker is just part of it.. If u want a really good sounding system i would say go with a pair of cheap JL audio subs, and a 300-500 fostgate amp... if u buy any other amp you'll be wasting your money, cause nothing sounds like a fostgate amp

I don't want anything that would make me have to install an extra battery under the hood or something like that, and I was thinking about only spending $200 on the amp... Forgot to mention, I use my trunk a lot, so I need the space, that's why I'm only getting one speaker (I thought the amp only boosted the power to the speaker, not improved sound quality). amp is the key get a single channel to run your sub. also get a capacitor to save your alternator and keep a steady pwr source. you dont want to dim you headlights. GEt a good set of wires 4 guage is ok . make sure to run pos and neg wires on opposite sides of your car to make sure u dont pick up noise.a good amp makes flea market subs even sound good. Im only assuming your in the younger crowd so i isugjest you ask around for used equiptment on the homeboy shopping network. keep in mind amps have serial nubbers and subs dont wink wink.

Every componet in your system makes a difference. This is one of those things where you truly get what you pay for. If you get a powerful amp and shitty subs, the subs will blow pretty quickly. So, pay the extra money, it'll be worth it. Any of the more popular name brands will do (Fosgate, JBL, Polk, Pioneer etc.) Here is a link to Crutchfield -[link]- They have a free catalogue you can order. It does a great job at breaking everything down for you. Also, from my days rocking the $2000 system in the $800 1995 Escort, I have some advice...toggle switches. In my car I installed a toggle switch which could cut the power on and off to the amp. This is great for several reasons... 1.) Sometimes you don't want bass. Instead of having to unhook your subs from the amp, all you have to do is flip a switch. 2.) If you car is like mine was, idling at stop lights or anywhere while the bass is hitting hard will put a serious strain on the alternator. 3.) Most importantly, if a cop rolls up beside you, you can kill the bass while still rocking out to your music. Edited Thu Jun 15 2006, 07:49PM |

Toaster, I just picked up a nice alpine mono amp and an alpine 4 channel amp which will soon be running a 12' type R and alpine components, Ill let you know how it sounds when i finish. One thing you have to remember is that you have to buy more then just subs and amps, there are hidden costs such as wiring and soundproofing(Highly reccomended) subboxes, extra batteries, capacitors, and the like. Just something to keep in mind
