Have you ever had an oncoming car flash his headlights at you and wondered just what important message he was trying to communicate? Here, for the first time, I'll explain the secret code invented years ago by truck drivers: 1 flash - Pardon me, but your headlights seem very bright, could you possibly dim them? or: I think you should turn on your headlights now. 2 flashes - There is a law enforcement presence ahead of you, you might consider ceasing any illegal activities you might currently be engaged in. 3 flashes - There is an accident/animal/brainless twit ahead of you, you might consider removing your cranium from your colon momentarily so that you are better equipped to deal with it. 4 or more flashes - Hey, I just discovered this neat little lever on my steering column, watch what happens when I wiggle it. |

Don't do it in new jersey lol, according to this letter from Essex County From: Shelton L. McCall, Jr. Deputy Chief Assistant Prosecutor Essex County Prosecutor's Office Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2005 9:42 AM To: All_ECPO Subject: FW: Police officers working with the DARE program has issued this warning: If you are driving after dark and see an on-coming car with no headlights on, DO NOT FLASH YOUR LIGHTS AT THEM! This is a common Bloods gang member "initiation game" that goes like this: The new gang member under initiation drives along with no headlights, and the first car to flash their headlights at him is now his "target". He now required to turn around and chase that car, then shoot and kill every individual in the vehicle in order to complete his initiation requirements. Police Depts. across the nation are being warned that September 23rd and 24th is the "blood" initiation weekend. Their intent is to have all the new bloods nationwide drive around on Friday and Saturday nights with their headlights off. In order to be accepted into the gang, they have to shoot and kill all individuals in the first auto that does a courtesy flash to warn them that their lights are off. Make sure you share this information with all the drivers in your family! Please forward this message to all your friends and family members to inform them about this initiation ritual. If the gang members killed everyone in the car, how would anyone know that it was a Blood gang member going through initiation? We can assume that because the gang member killed everyone in the car that it was not one of the victims telling the story. So, was it a witness? Well, if it was, the witness would have to not only see the murder(s), but also know that the driver of the car, earlier down the road, flashed his/her headlights at the headlight-less gang member’s car and that it was the “first” car that had done so. Then the witness would have to be able to identify it was the Blood gang, and that it was an initiation. All of which are unlikely. Furthermore, Blood gang members (or any/all gang members) do not testify against one another. To do so would ensure certain death both inside and outside the correctional system. Staying loyal to the gang is the only way to ensure safety on the street and in the clank. Gang members do not defect. Wu-banga wrote ... I live in the fifth most dangerous city in the USA (Richmond, VA). The police never told me of this. Are you telling me that in a city, Richmond, known for murder, rape and savagery, the police decided to be mum when they were specifically “warned” about a credible threat? So, now we are literally speaking of a cover-up of epic proportion? And for what? Wu-banga wrote ... There are leaders in Los Angeles, New York, Miami etc. I doubt that all the different leaders of these different sects of a gang got the email initiation.@,blood.mail.com. First, it must be able to apply to everyone, as to strike fear into the largest possible audience. Second, it must be something that is seemingly benign that turns deadly. Well, we can satisfy the first component easily. Here, we have drivers at night who are doing nothing but trying to help by alerting others that they do not have headlights on. Ok, well, everyone drives at night. Oh my, that means that we are all at risk! What are we to do? Tell everyone you know. We can all be victims! Panic! For the second component, we can, again, all relate. We have to drive. It is a fact of post-industrialized America. So, that means that we are all at risk! No one is above this attack! Oh my, help! No one is safe! Panic! This reminds me of another well known urban legend…razor blades in candy on Halloween. For those of you, thankfully, not abreast on fear-inducing cockamamie, allow me to introduce you to this story. As the legend goes, every Halloween there are several innocent children who bite into candy, only to have their mouths severely cut up by razor blades (rust optional, depending on who tells you the story). Parents, on Halloween, should always check their children’s candy because some sick person may have put razor blades in the candy. This is one of the most prolific urban legends of all time. However, there is little reason for this widespread panic. Having written a paper on the very topic of urban legends last semester (as a sociology student), I know, based on my research, that there are only three validated cases of this actually happening. By “validated cases” I mean police reports, and medical evidence. Of the three cases of razor blades in candy on Halloween, all three were perpetrated by family members. That is, it was not the evil stranger that menacingly put the razor in the candy, but rather an aunt, uncle, mother, or father. So, yes, one of the most popular urban legends has happened, but not by a stranger. If you are to worry about anyone on Halloween, make it your relatives. They are the ones who are, to date, 100% more likely to put a razor in your candy than a stranger. Here, again, we can satisfy both of the components of an urban legend. First, it applies to a large audience. Everyone goes Trick-Or-Treating. More importantly, parents let their children go Trick-Or-Treating! So, right there, you have a wide, built-in audience. Secondly, something seemingly benign (children Trick-Or-Treating) becomes deadly (razor blades). Just don’t by into the hype. Call a spade a spade and know that you have a better chance of getting killed by a Mako Shark than you do getting killed by a gang member or biting into a razor on Halloween. Well considering there has been a pact between the Bloods and the Crips for some time, this comes as a surprise to me. Maybe in VA they have different customs, but in Cali and NY/NJ there is a pact. Considering i have an aquaintance (sp, sorry i havent slept in 24 hours very tired) with 2 blood members in my local Chapter I doubt they're lying I think you have valid points about the "flashing headlights" initiation and I have no knowledge of it besides what people in my neighborhood tell me. I could always make the effort to find out next time I remember. |
