I have a sushi restaurant near my apartment that my cousin and I occasionally frequent. Well, Wednesday night my cousin and I went to get an early dinner. We had just sat down when a slightly chubby Japanese kid with spikey hair and horn-rimmed glasses approached our table and asked us in a think accent if we would like some water. I said, "Yes, please." and turned the glasses on the table over. He poured our water and walked away.

My cousin looked at me and said, "Did you see that?"
I said, "What?"
She said, "Our server. He looks just like Bruce Lee!

I said, "No, all Asians just look alike," then gave her a wink. At that point, she kicked me hard under the table.

The waiter came back to the table and asked (again in a very thick accent), "Are you ready to order?"
Then I realized he even sounded like Bruce Lee. I cracked a smile, but refrained from laughing.

Upon seeing my smirk, his whole demeanor changed. He sat, "Wat problem?" Figuring that he picked up on my smile, I said, 'Oh no problem. You just remind us of someone, that's all."

He put his order pad back in his apron and said "Let me guess. Martial Art. Enter Dragon?"

I said, "Yeah, I guess you get that a lot. Sorry. Didn't mean any offense."

Then the guy just rolled eyes and said in absolutely perfect English, "Man, I am so sick of this shit". Then walked to the podium, tossed his apron on it, and walked out the door.

My cousin looked at me and said "What the fuck was that?"

The manager came over and said, "I'm sorry guys what just happened?" I explained the situation to him and said that I was sorry if I offended the guy. he said, "No, he just gets that a lot. We're better off without him." I said, "Yeah, I was upset that he would resort to using vulgarity in front of paying customers."

The manager then said, "The last thing that we want is for you to have an unhappy experience. I'll send over another server. Order whatever you'd like. We'll take care of your bill for the evening, aside from alcohol of course."

My face lit up and my cousin immediately began perusing the more expensive parts of the menu. The manager called another server over and explained the situation. We were set for the night.

I stopped the manager as he walked away and said, "Oh, by the way, what was up with that guy speaking in a thick accent even though he spoke perfect English?"

The manager leaned down and whispered, "Honestly, the servers find that non-Asian customers tip better if they speak with a thick accent. I think they think it feels more authentic that way." I nodded and smiled at him as he shook my hand then walked away, but kept a straight face as the pretty Japanese waitress approached our table and said, "Take order please?"
