| For Quebecers. WARNING <--- OPINION | ||

I'm sorry but i have to vent for a minute here. I'm not sure if AKs follows this as i know he is from Quebec aswell but just recently there was an inquiry into how immigrants are treated in Quebec. First i have to say immediately i was unimpressed by who they picked to lead it. A french guy, and a native Quebecer. If it was me, i would have chosen a Francophone and an Anglophone but from out of province. Perhaps Winnipeg(large french population there) or Vancouver. Secondly they concluded that there were no problems with the way immigrants are treated here(English people are considered immigrants btw). This pissed me off mainly because I myself had to go through a huge hassel just so i could go to school in English. Ontop of that i was treated like a fucking terrorist when i went to get my license. And trying to find a job when you speak mainly english with "working knowledge"(aka, you can speak and communicate but its not perfect) of french was also extremely difficult for me in Quebec. I don't know if you read The Suburban AKs but I usually tend to stay away from Quebec news papers because even they tend to be tainted with words i had never heard before moving to Quebec such as Federalist(Someone who considers themselves Canadian, not Quebecer). But i happened to pick up The Suburban and I found this guy who feels the same way as i do and many other Quebecers which was quite refreshing and i thought i would share it with you. English Like Me is the name of the article. I must specify that i do not mean to offend anyone. This is opinion and i thought it would be nice to share this article with any other "Anglophones"(as we are labeled) who feel secluded in Quebec such as i do. |

I have little to no knowledge on Quebec but, people take pride in where they are from, so people will naturally class people from elsewhere as below them. It's like Polish people coming to the UK, Mexicans moving to the US. Westerns moving to the east etc etc... It's just something you have to fight and bare your teeth at ,I'm not saying it's right by any means... If people obey the rules where they are living and pay the correct taxes then they should be free to live and do what they want. Edited Thu May 22 2008, 11:02PM | ||

The difference is Canada is French and English, Ontario(mainly english) posts french signs for every english sign, new bruinswick is completely bi-lingual. But in Quebec they(government) tends to go completely over board.. thats what the post was about | ||

Ok! if i go to vancouver i wont expect to be served in french, i wont say ostie de pute parle moi en francais, that just normal, if i go to russia i wont said calise de cave repond en francais, i ll learn the languge... we were french befor canada existed and ever since all you people tried to turn us to speak english, thats the reason for laws. most of the people i know dont even say they are canadian .. even in politic we are not taken seriously and the only reason Quebec is not a country is becuz of the english person's vote at the referedum... there will always be hard feeling between ontarian and quebecer. Oh yeah, we are a bunch of asshole and guess what, on sen tabarnak, si te pas conten retourn dou tu vien ... (no offence) | ||

Not what i mean AKs, Im talking government not retail. Obviously you go to Walmart in vancouver and demand to be served in french and they will tell you to go fuck yourself.. but get pulled over by a cop and demand to be served in french and they are required to serve you in french... In russia it doesnt count since Russia has yet to surrender to the Canadian Empire. lol The law is CANADIAN. its a Constitutional right, like the USA's 1st amendment |
