| Review of The Descent (See it NOW!!) | ||

  WARNING: if you don't want the movie ruined, JUST GO SEE IT!! and trust me. the typical audience for these types of movies is not used to an actual story line and any kind of establishment of the premise and character development. You feel like you know the characters so once they enter the cave, you bond with them a little bit more. So endure the slower start than you expect because it is worth it! Even before the creatures come along, the movie has you right on the edge of your seat, like few horror movies ever really do. The death of the husband serves as an immediate hit of shock to your system in how it is conceived. People these days a When you realize the situation involving the affair, you are pulled along by the intensity of the notion of this situation if you were in Sarah's place. The sounds of the creatures are enough to frighten you if you conjure them up in your mind on some lonely car ride home from somewhere late in the night. The gore is a major part of the shock factor and is not exploited in a silly way, like most horror movies. You never know what to expect, what is around the next corner, and Juno throating her friend, and Sarah ultimately doing in Juno are not things you would have expected, but things that leave you thinking about them for an awful long time. After Jaws I probably did not want to go in any kind of water any time soon, but after The Descent, I will probably never go in a cave or hike in the Appalachian Mountains ever. Oh yeah, the actress that plays Juno is fucking hot!! Creative, Shocking, Spine-Tingling....all-out Scary!!! The Descent is one that will have me talking and thinking for an awful long time! The only thing that dissapointed me was that with so many women in 1 movie, there was no hawt lesbian scenes. I mean who wouldn't want to see Juno have a battle of the tongues with 1 of the other girls? crappy marketing by Lionsgate doomed The Descent! It could have done so much better in theatres. It's up there with the best of em. What a shame this awesome film only made 8 million this weekend. Of course, if they would have marketed it as the smart, scary-as-hell horror/thriller that it is, it would have done better. The trailer gives WAY too much away (watch the original Alien trailer for a lesson) and it just appeared as another dumb Hollywood horror movie that wasn't scary. Quick Lionsgate - change your marketing plan! Thought 1 problem, Since that awful peice of crap The Cave was released last year at the same time as this movie, America has released this movie later because they looked alike. Everybody else in the world, this movie is a year old already. Also, they AMERICANIZED the ending because everybody has to have a happy fucking ending. Because they want hope. They want to see that no matter what happens, there will always be a way out of things. NOT TRUE!! Watch the UK ending. It is much better. She hallucinates her daughter, and dreams that she makes it out alive, yet it leads you to believe she's going crazy, because of the effects of the cave. She is cramped up, in a cave full of creatures so shes freaking out and has lost all hope, and will eventually die. You can watch it now or after you see the movie..up to you.
