Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

well i has a problem with my compzorz. come home today to find my internet not working, so i restart, which usually works. then i get to the xp welcome screen and it freezes. so i restart and try again. once again, freezes. so i go into safe mode and my internet is working fine. then i try to go into regular xp and it doesnt freeze until i get to my desktop. it freezes for about 4 minutes before task manager loads, and i notice that system idle process is hogging 100% of my cpu, which is not normal. so finally it pans itself out and everything starts working again, internet included. so im browsing the web and i notice my task bar is strangely missing an icon, but i couldnt point my finger to it. then i go to turn on some music, and i realise the windows speaker icon isnt there. and my music doesnt play. so i go into control panel and sure enough my comp isnt recognizing my speakers. so i shut down the comp, open it up, adjust my sound card, and turn it back on. once again, it freezes at the welcom screen, but after 2 or 3 minutes im able to get to my once again frozen desktop. finally all is well, and i go to test my music. nothing. and then the internet stopped working as well. i should also point out that xbox live is not working for me, yet my wireless internet is working and my sister gets it on her comp. fuckin strange. the last thing i did before i left for school this morning was check my download for 21, but ive never had problems with utorrent or peerguardian. i came home and both utorrent and peerguardian were closed out, which is common because it tends to fuck up our vonage, so my dad closes out. so idfk whats the deal. has this happened to anyone else before? does anyone suggest trying anything? should i obtain a copy of xp and do a fresh install on one of my hard drives and try booting off that? (when i say obtain, i mean torrent) please, any suggestions would be appreciated. and zero, nobodly laphs are your jokes. gj on being worst admin Edited Tue Jan 06 2009, 12:07AM |

try a fresh install. BTW emer, when was the last time you re-formatted your hdd? You should do it every 3 months or so, but the average is 6 months. Im going to guess years. When u do a fresh install everything always works. My guess would be that you have some sort of file corruption. I have another idea if ya want. Use your torrent skills and obtain XP. Burn it to a dvd. Go into your bios and change your boot order to dvd drive first. When it boots from the CD and you get the normal windows install procedure (partitioning the drive), instead of erasing all that, you get the option of a repair. What this means is that your drive stays partitioned, you keep aaaaalllll of your programs and files and shit, but it practically installs windows all over again. Its a repair tool that most of the time works. So first run a virus scanner and check to see if you have lil wormies crawling around in your PC. If not then try a fresh install on another hard drive. Make sure you have all your drivers. If the problem persists then its a hardware issue (which i highly highly highly doubt). If you have no problems after the fresh install, try the repair windows option on your current hard drive. Hopefully it works. If all of this still doesnt work then hook up both hard drives together in your PC. If you have SATA drives then just plug in both to seperate slots. If you have ATA drives (the ribbon wire) then hook up the fresh drive to master and the broken drive to slave. If you have one SATA and one ATA (like me) then just make sure the ATA drive is Master and the boot priority has the fresh drive first. You will have XP installed on both so both are now partitioned. From the fresh XP drive go into "My Computer" and search for the broken hard drive. Because it is partitioned you should be able to get access to all of your information and files. Copy over all of the stuff you want to keep to the new drive. Doing it this way will let you get access to your info without the PC freezing. Then unhook the fresh XP drive and re-format the broken one. Good luck. Edited Tue Jan 06 2009, 12:42AM |
