Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

the title is misleading, but it means I need help with two problems. first, my computer. A virus ate the shit out of windows and I can't even load the computer up anymore. I just get error screens after my motherboard screen. Is it possible to take out the harddrive, place it in a hard drive enclosure, and take off the picture/video/ other media files as data? I don't want to reformat the computer until it is definite that I can't get anything off of the harddrive. I can't get onto it from loading it on my computer, so would making it it's own external harddrive work? As in would it have all my files on it if I hooked it up externally to another computer? If I can't do any of that I'll say fuck it to the files and just reformat, but I'd like to get them, scan them, and try and salvage as much as possible. on to the second problem. I've had a semi-used Xbox just sitting in my room for months now, and it's an Elite so I don't just want it to go to waste if it's easily fixable. Is there anywhere I can send my Xbox to have them fix it and get it up and running again? it's probably only needs a good lens cleaning, but I don't dare open it up and fuck it up. Thanks for any help. |

this is the same computer that has only gotten two viruses.... I just haven't fixed it in the last 8 months, lol. quit jockin mah fresh would the xbox problem be something that minor that I could do? I can clean the lens, it's just I don't want to open up the Xbox unless I have to. If I could send it away for $50 and have it run like new I'd much rather, I don't have the time to fuck with it. I barely have enough time to post pointless threads asking what to do. |

before you go out and purchase a new drive, what error message are you getting. Is it a blue or a black screen when you get the error? Is the computer under any warranty? If it turns out to be a hard drive crash, simply moving it outside the computer won't accomplish anything except void any warranty you have on the thing. Personally I've never had a drive crash, but external drives are cheap and big enough to have as a backup in such a case. Zero wrote ... Send it back to Billy Gates and have them fix it fo free (well pay shipping costs, but it should be under warranty. just read the paperwork) Edited Mon Aug 03 2009, 01:53AM |

It's not the harddrive that's fucked, its the windows I have on the drive. the virus went straight to my System 32 file and had it's way with me. the hard drive is fine, the only problem is that I can't access anything on it. I think Emer's idea would be the best bet for me .4ngryToasters wrote ... Zero wrote ... So basically we got what we saw. |

Get a second drive (or if you have a 16gb USB Flash Drive) install a version of windows onto it... OR** Just take your drive and put it into someone else computer (if you dont have any remorse of a potential virus transfer to his). Once the second drive is partitioned and windows is installed, go into "My computer" and select the bad drive. You should be able to access documents, pictures, and pretty much any thing else on there. But first, since you said the virus attacked the System32 folder, try and repair windows with the windows installer disk. Go into BIOS since you said you can get to your mobo screen. Change the boot sequence to CD first and boot from CD just like you would if you were to reformat. When you do, it always prompts you to either wipe out the partition on the drive and install a new copy, OR, it detects a version of Windows and asks if you want it to repair it. What that does is it wipes your system folder and everything else EXCEPT YOUR DATA. Games, pix, vids, files, all that shit is untouched. Try the repair first. If it dont work then just go with option 2. Goodluck. |

So far all I've realized are three options: 1) send it to microsoft for two months 2) get it fixed at gamestop for $80 or 3) buy the "fix your xbox 360 in under one hour!" guide. It's either money or waiting, I haven't found a single relevant guide that will help me and I've been googling for days. This shit is fucking shenanigans. apparently if you get the red rings of death you're fucked. |

b4ndito wrote ... tl;dr tm;cc too mexican, can't care I'm buying a small HD to host Windows on while I use the 750 GB harddrive as only data. I realized that it was partitioned so only windows got infected, not my memory, that's why Windows crashed, not everything else. So everything should still be okay I just need to put another Harddrive in it. as for the Xbox I'm getting the cables for the one that works, but the rings of death xbox is going to need some work.... and im not going to be the one to clean the mobo, too much work and I could fuck something up. Thanks for the help guys, except for the mexican |
