Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Just a heads up, that board does not support sli/crossfire. Might wanna spring the extra $10 for Glitch's choice. If you're choosing that board for the SATA 3.0, just do me a favor and look at the cost of a sata 3.0 HDD... Yup. However I definitely think you should look into a board with USB 3.0, soon everything will be using that (although pci expansion cards are cheap enough). -[link]- 40$ more, but you get the best of both worlds. Glitch wrote ... This MSI board doesnt say it doesnt have crossfire support, nor does it say anything about SLI. But it does have 2x PCIe slots. Its an excellent board.. i have been a fan of this board since i5 was in pre-production. Well I would be shocked if they included an sli and crossfire bridge with the accessories and it didn't support it. Btw I have the micro atx version of this board in my server, and the thing is beast. Just the options available in the BIOS menu make it worth it. My only complaint would be the side mounted sata connectors... very awkward to fit in a case. One other thing I'd like to bring to attention is the monitor. Newegg's return policy is 8 pixels have to be dead in order for them to accept the return. So that means if you have 7 dead pixels in the middle of your screen, you're stuck. I would rather spend the extra cash (that would go into shipping anyway) and purchase a monitor at a retail store, so at least that way I could return it if it has even one dead pixel. Lastly, you should really consider this ssd -[link]- . I know it's twice as much, but you're getting more than double the amount of space and faster read speeds (write speed isn't that important, how often do you have to write to the operating system folder?). That OCZ is only 30 GB, 16 of which will go to windows 7, probably another 2 - 4 for updates, and 6 to paging files (which I would actually recommend turning off, because an ssd's life is governed by how many writes are done to it, the less the better). So you only have 10 - 4GB for any other games you want to put on there (and trust me, putting games on an ssd will slash load times between startup and switching maps on servers). I just want to post my setup I go with Nvidia because I bought a 9800gtx+ when they were top and with the new 790 northbridges you can pretty much 3way sli with 3 different cards: the 9800gtx+, the integrated mobo graphics, and a higher end card albeit the gtx+ is mostly a physx card now. AMD Phenom II x2 550 $150 QUAD CORES ARE NULL 4 GAMING. games don't utilize 4 cores and don't see improvements over 2 8gb ADATA 1600mhz 9-9-9-27 ram running at 1333mhz 7-7-7-24 $160 Razer ac-1 soundcard (sounds like poopy) got it on woot ASUS m4a790x motherboard Corsair 750watt psu. corsair is obvi the way to go heres my case wankery: rosewill touchscreen fan monitor. its like $15 lots of sound activated cold cathodes -[link]- 24" ASUS monitor. make sure you get a 2ms or 3ms response time monitor I bought -[link]- after reseaching case temperatures for a week and the temp this thing maintains is incredible compared to my first |

lol@ games don't utilized 4 cores also you say they don't use for cores yet you have 8 gigs o ram? a good cpu though, do you have it oc'd if not you should, that's a stand out for being one of the best dual cores with ocing capabilities wish i would have saved the article showing the tests of quad cores being utilized in games. this is more so in certain games but you get the point. |

quad cores don't help with gaming... save your article supreme commander and TF2 are the only games that use more than two cores otherwise quadcore = dualcore. my 8g of ram is for rendering and zipping. gaming is for fags |

There are several games out now that utilize 3 cores... and future games very very soon (with DX11 coming mainstream) that will utilize more then 2 cores. But if you are designating 2 cores to gaming... which left over cores are designated for running operating system background tasks and memory management? Dual-Core era is dying... Multi-core (3+) era is beginning. Join the club. Hell, even Core i3 are dual cores with hyper-threading (for the most part). Essentially making them quad cores when it comes to threads. Why pigeon hole your expensive computer to games that are already out... and not somewhat future proof it for a little while? With that set-up, he can upgrade to a better gfx card in the future and voila! Future games with DX11 and those that are written in 3 or more threads don't stand a chance. Do we need a quad core or hexa core with hyper-threading? Prolly not anytime soon. But having 4 cores is always a good thing. I got my Phenom II x3 BE for $120... so glad i didnt get dual core. (Tried unlocking the 4th core and it ran unstable and instantly fried my gtx260 =( But that's another story.) Maddogme: Nice build... but its up to you if ya wanna spend that extra money for the Intel X-25 SSD 80gb. If ya wanna go smaller get the Intel 40gb. Scratch the OCZ. Oh, and i don't really know why you wanna spend the extra $80 for a core i7 socket 1156. You dont really need the hyper-threading... the i5 750 would be more then sufficient, but to each his own. The video card is good... the GTX 260 is lil better but also $50 more. I suggest you stay with the 4870 for now... good choice. You can always upgrade later and crossfire (i believe you can mix GPU's with crossfire). Overall very nice. Power supply scares me a little with 4 +12v rails at 18amps each... but i think you will be alright. Check out some silverstone power supply's if ya want real quality. |

Im liking this build very much. Case should do the job with those fans, HDD's and SSD's are very nice... and... that Corsair Power supply SHOULD be in that system. Fuck the thermaltake. 70 amps on the single +12v rail! 850 watts, 4 6+2 pin connectors, Corsair quality and reliability and its pretty damn cheap for what you get! Nice find! Oh, and buying a monitor retail just might be a better option. You will have to pay more (price will be higher + tax = potential $50+ more), but you wont have that small chance of getting a bunch of dead/stuck pixels and having to be stuck with the monitor. That one is up to you. I myself still can't figure out which one i want to do. Overall, im excited to see this baby put together. EDIT: BTW, your tower is a full tower so you will have no problems fitting anything. The 4xxx series and the GTX2xx series are both around 10.5 inches in length. Will fit in most mid towers (some with modding) and all full towers. The 5xxx series however, not sure about mid towers since they are like 11.5, but full towers still yes. Just be prepared to have a huge fucking tower weighing like 50-70 pounds loaded. Especially since its steel i believe. My midtower is aluminum and it weighs like 35- 40 pounds.
