Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Hey Guys! So I'm rebuilding my old gaming rig back into a gaming rig, and a HD video editor (Adobe 5.5 Production Suite). I know it's old as fuck, but I'm looking to save as many parts as I can (Like mobo/ram/processor maybe?) So here is what I got. Mobo: Asus A8V Deluxe Last comment on this mobo...November 29th, 2005... I'll upgrade if I have to, but this is a budget machine, also, all my other cards are still AGP... Processor: AMD anthalon 64 Winchester socket 939 I would love to upgrade to the AMD phenom II, believe is AM2 which is socket 939? Last review of my CPU was June 20th, 2005. Memory: I got 2 gigs of memory (DDR 400 184 Pin), board can handle 4, I'll probably buy 2 gigs more (2 open slots still). Maybe these? Video Card: GeForce 7600gt 256mb HDD: It's a WD, think it's only 128gb, but that's all I need, I will have external storage. I will probably format and actually run in as sata, when I installed it, sata was brand new and I wasn't sure how to do it (I was stupid). I do have to check the speed, and if it is an issue I have a 1tb Toshiba in my nas that is basically unused (might have to xfer some files off it?) that I can hot swap in as a backup. This is where things get tricky. My mobo only supports AGP 4x/8x which is obsolete thanks in large to SLI. My gpu might be fried, I'm not sure, and since my Power Supply seems to not want to even push me to post, I can't test it at the moment. I'm going downstairs to dismantle an old PC that has a 250 watt PS in it, but i doubt that can power my finished machine. So what do you all think? Keep with the parts I have and only upgrade, or build from scratch? I think I can budget about $500...tops, I just lost my job. Help me out fam |

Here is a good list for almost my budget. I can take out the bluray burner (rather not) and the case, or just find $200 more and build this. Seems reasonable? -[link]- |

case: -[link]- I've used it in the past, reliable, sturdy, and dirt cheap (I know it is out of stock atm but I'm hoping that will change, there are other good options for waaaayyy cheaper than what you had) $45 cpu -[link]- can't go wrong $230 mobo: -[link]- $118 gpu: -[link]- $110 psu: -[link]- $85 ram: -[link]- $47 bluray: -[link]- $80 with $10 mail in rebate open for comments, i'm sure glitch will get in on this as well just a rough build but if you're willing to go to ~$700 it's a good build. if you're looking to stay closer to $500 I have a build for that as well. love you |

socket 939? are you serious? -[link]- buy this before tomorrow. You need a videocard and new powersupply to house it. This is the card I'm replacing my 460 with. I've always spent $200 on my videocard, since I was 15. 2 gigs ddr5 superclocked -[link]- with the hdmi cable. +psu and maybe aftermarket cpu cooling and you have a comp twice as powerful as ^ for $550 don't even wait for them to compete, just buy it. LOLOLOLOL twice as powerfull eh? the only thing you said that was worth buying is the video card, which I can't argue with because it's a great card. if you do his idea you might as well keep your build and just get a $500 vid card! |

Oh yeah? how big do you think his memory slots are on that old mobo? Not 240 pin I bet. He cant get a new quadcore processor or even dualcore with a 939 socket. Ever. | ||

Some good suggestions in this thread... For the record, im am personally against Biostar and any motherboard that even wants to be a mini ITX/ATX board. Im ok with MicroATX but never mini. A motherboard is "the" platform for all your components. NEVER skimp out on it. Ok now Rusty my pal... Since this isnt just a gaming rig and this will also be for your DSLR Video Editing, i have a list together which covers everything. Only thing is this is on the budget side but is $800. Its 70 bucks more than your list you put together. I personally would spend $1k to really cream myself but i brought it down 200 but left options for future upgrade without having to replace anything serious if you ever wanted to. It has everything including video card which you will need. The vid card will run excellent for all current games. The only thing is the card has 1GB GDDR5. Personally i would have rathered 2GB but your editing software like mine will use your main RAM which you will have 8GB's worth (2GB more than me currently since im running a triple channel i7 build). Mine is more than enough to run SUBSTANTIAL amounts of video effect layers on Adobe After Effects. I didnt go with Intel for 2 reasons. One being AMD is cheaper and the motherboards are cheaper too. This enabled me to get this performance for this price range. Two being your video editing. For RAW video editing power the best route is "dedicated cores." My current i7 is a quad core with hyper-threading running at 4.0ghz. This processor in this build will outperform mine and its $150 less. Hyperthreading, while cool and will run 8 threads on a quad, utilizes information a bit different. Having 8 dedicated cores will run that software the most efficient. But it will lack a bit in terms of gaming when compared to its Intel counterpart (but not enough to care... maybe 5-8%?lol). Plus, the Intel you and Piece listed doesnt even have hyperthreading. So your software will encode/decode at half the speeds and your paying more for it. And i suggest you do a minor overclock. Ive read where novices easily get it up to 3.7 and 3.8 without doing anything crazy like messing with voltages and shit. Here is the catch... The FX series AMD CPUs run fine on windows 7, but wont run its full potential on some applications (not counting your Adobe Suite). This is not big deal as a patch coming out soon fixes this and Windows 8 already utilizes all 8 cores so this processor is future proof. I always go with Corsair whenever possible. Quality is unmatched and performance is top ranking. Plus they have excellent customer service. Here it is. -[link]- Now, if you want to save a bit more money... i will suggest you wait for 2 things. One being a power supply and the other a different motherboard. The ones i have listed are great, but if you are up to it, i suggest these... Power Supply - -[link]- Motherboard - -[link]- The case change is preference... i always preferred Antec cases. The illusion case is excellent for air circulation and is not as big as the HAF (width). Oh and the memory works with both motherboards. This particular memory is on both QVL's (Qualified vendors List). Let me know what you think. Edited Wed Feb 01 2012, 05:38AM |

I love you all! Such good information! I've been out of the building game far too long it seems! I think I can garner possibly $700 (Kickstarter fundraising, saving money etc). I'll look into this more. Fun fact, my DSLR will be recording at over 1gig/min (maybe anamorphic 2k, haven't gotten that far need to look at funding) So I do need real power for RAW video. |
