Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

ok so i just upgraded my computer with another 7800 GT so i am running 2 in SLI. But before i installed it me being the complete genius i am accidentally almost fucked up the 2nd card. How you my ask? well since the card is re-certified from EVGA, i plugged the new one in by itself to see if it worked fine. So on goes the computer and it works fine until i accidentally changed the resolution to high and the monitor when pfffftt on me. So with much trouble me and my dad plugged both into SLI mode with the working card as the primary hoping it would restore to the normal resolution and it did. But for some reason my computer seems to be running a little choppy and i havent seen any improvement in FPS. I was wondering if my processor cant keep up with the 2 vid cards and same with the ram. my rig AMD 64 3200+ 2.0 GHZ Dual EVGA nvidia 7800 GT 256 mb dont laugh at the ram 256 pc2300, 256 pc2700, and two 256 pc3200 = 1 GB total please if you have any thoughts on waht might cause it and if i need to upgrade everything else. Im probably gonna go to either 2 or 2.5 GB of PC3200 and either a AMD 64 X2 4800+ or a 4600+ |

um with SLI a BIG problem is energy consumption. Take a look at how much power ur drawing and how much ur putting out. Thats all I can think of for now. But when I was looking at building a rig i noticed that alot of newer parts are "SLIE certified" so as you say maybe the ram cant hold up to the challenge. that is another possibility.

definitely make sure you have enough power for that, at least 500W preferebly 600+. i dunno how familiar you are with installing stuff, so i'm just going to list things that come to mind. does your board have an extra 12V plug on it, next to or around the video cards? does your board have a switch or card that needs to be switched when using SLI? are both of your cards the EXACT same model AND vendor? how far apart did you purchase the two cards? did you enable SLI-mode with the nVidia program? does your device manager recognize both cards? do the cards have a PCI-E power plug on them? hopefully, most of your answers are 'yes'. if the two cards were purchased a month apart or more, they will probably be from different batches. even though they have they same model and vendor, different batches have minor changes that can affect the stability of running in SLI mode. just like when you buy 'matched' RAM. |

if you can, get a 4400 instead of the 4600. I know AMD doesn't make em anymore, but it's exactly the same as the 4800 except 200mhz slower.

FSB is for communicating with RAM. SLI communicates over PCI-E to the southbridge, then to the cpu. plus, he's using AMD and they don't use an FSB anymore. The memory controller for AMD is on the cpu itself and uses HyperTransport to communicate with the RAM. Edited Sun Mar 11 2007, 05:12AM |

i think my power supply is 500 or 550 not sure, im not sure about any of those questions except yes to the nvidia program activating it, i bought them like nearly a year apart but both from EVGA, checked the specs and they run at the same speeds, and my FSB i think is 1 GHZ

i honestly think the fact that you bought them a year apart is the root of your problem. double check your motherboard for any extra power connections. actually, if you could just tell me what motherboard you have i will get a better idea. |
