Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

E6600 good choice best bang for the buck and overclocks like a mofo I would go with an SLI board just in case I have the Raptor 150 and the 300 gb Caviar so those are good Case- Thermaltake Armour has lots of headroon in case you go with big video cards or power supply. Get as big and fan filled as you can within your budget. Now Im a fanatic on power supplies. They are the heart of the rig and can cause all kinds of problems. I never skimp on them. Im currently in favor as a midrange PSU being the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750w. Power requirments are getting hefty and anylists believe ( and I agree) that a 1000w PSU will be necessary in the very near future do to grahics mostly. Drives of any kind dont come with cases. Sometimes you get a craptacular PSU and a few fans. I would look at an after market cooling solution for that 6600 if you are going to O/C. If not the stock cooler will be fine with that processor ( they sip power and run cool as my ex-wifes um...never mind ) Please nostie if you dont do anything else get a GOOD quality PSU with as much power as you can offord. You will be glad you did. You dont have to go with pcp&p Seasonic are awsome too and alot cheaper. Between 700 and 1000 w (for headroom in the future) is my strong suggestion. |

proc: either the 6600 or 6400 is good..nothin different really the hdds are good nothing wrong there motherboards ok too the psu..450-500 should be enough..the only time you'd need a 700W or above is SLI or Quad SLI with 700 GB hard drives and a X8600 proc |

nostie wrote ... could someone please explain to me raid, and talk to me on xfire or aim about it? i want to get a clearer undestanding of the speed boost, and what i can do with it. Heres a link for you that is pretty basic. Mostly depends on what you do with your rig. But HDD's these days are pretty fast so RAID is not necessary in most cases. That raptor will do you fine as far as gaming. If you did alot ov video or photo editing it may be a good choice. Read speeds are great with a striped array n(raid 0) But write speeds get a bit slower due to the split. Cost verses performance makes it not worth it to me for what I do. RAID was a big hard-on a few years ago but gamers didnt see a big improvement for the cost of the drives. There are many who will debate that but reviews dont justify the cost in my opinion. I've have thought of getting another Raptor later when the price goes down a bit a run a striped array just for shits and giggles. Heres a link to some basic info -[link]- |
