I'm so pissed off right now at how retardedly hard it has been for me to find a driver for my new phone so it will work with my PC. Literally the perfect storm of shit has formed to impede me from gaining root access to my Thunderbolt, and I'm still not even close to starting at 2:40am. For those who care, read on for details on what has happened, otherwise, skip the next paragraph this is the first time I ever attempted a root, so it has been a steep learning curve, but nothing I couldn't handle. Since the Thunderbolt is only 3 days old, and has the most security settings to "lock down" the phone than any other previous android, no easy root hacks exist, and you basically have to use the android development tools in order to gain access. The problem I was initially having was that my phone was not being recognized by the developer tools. No big deal, in fact, I kinda expected this to happen (if everything goes right the first time, you're doing it wrong). Well right when I'm trying to find the solution, Comcast decides to blow up the internet, and makes it impossible for me to get anything accomplished. My focus now turns to connecting to the google DNS server, in order to bypass this inconvenience. But that doesn't work. the only explanation for this that I can think of is that two trees simultaneously fell on the lines up and down the road from my house, therefore severing all connections to the internet. At this point, all I can do is kill time, so that's what I do. eventually the internet comes on long enough for me to find out why my phone won't connect, but before I can grab the driver, BAM! connection lost. I'm fuming at this point, and I'm ready to put a fist through the wall. So I do do what any sensible person would do and start yelling at inanimate objects, and mercilessly beat up my couch pillows. After my fit of rage, my internet eventually comes back on around 2:00am, and I can finally get my drivers from HTC's support page. Just one problem, the Thunderbolt is suspiciously missing from the list of supported phones. I know this can't be the end of the line since other people have had success rooting their phones, so I turn to the almighty google to find the answer for me. I end up on some android enthusiast forum (that makes me register in order to see links, even though I'm never going to use this forum) and they somehow have a backdoor link to HTC's website that has the coveted Thunderbolt driver. I think victory, but Comcast has one final curveball to throw me before I can continue. My poor internet connection is still crippled, and at a 1990-esc speed of 20 kb/s I am downloading the driver. As a result of me needing to kill time, this thread is made. So there you have it. I invite all of you to share you recent ragings. Even if no one reads them, I guarantee you'll feel batter afterwords  /rage |

i've been debating rooting my droid 2 but don't want to get fucked by warranty if i happen to need it :S worth it toasty? i know it's not near as hard as this sounds for the thunderbolt lol btw, in general how does it compare to the droid? |

Peace, lets just say, my benchmark (via quadrant standard) went from ~250 to ~700 when I rooted and put on a custom rom. | ||

If your phone were to be in a state where it cant be turned on (for example a broken screen or liquid damage), there would be no way for a techie to see if you have a custom ROM on the phone  . An even better scenario would be if they give you a new phone on the spot like most Verizon stores do (once it goes to get refurbished, no one checks for that sort of thing). As far rooting the droid 2 is concerned, I've heard it's as simple as getting an app and running it.The best description by far as to the benefits of rooting can be found here -[link]- . If that doesn't convince you, consider the fact that there are roms out there that will overclock the phone's cpu when it's in use, and underclock it when it's sitting in your pocket doing nothing (to save battery life). My friend claims he gets twice the battery life now with his rom (cyanogen). With that being said, having had both the motorola blur, and HTC sense OS configurations, I have to say that htc owns this one hands down (although the thunderbird is loaded with bloatware that will bog down your system unless you root it). I'm still waiting for a good rom to come out so I can take full advantage of my root access, but I guess I have to wait for now since the phone has only been on the market for 3 days. P.S. I just hate the screens and shit on other phones. The multi-touch on iphones as well as the sensitive scrolling have me hooked. It browses the internet well. It calls (for the most part) well. It's not enough time to get a battery that will be up to standards of Apple by release. The thunderbolt (getting from work) holds the great battery life of 4 hours of heavy usage (early reviews) and I don't see Apple going for that. |
