Oh Toast, I know you had the Original Droid, I have mine, but I'm afraid it has become self aware. It has sent text messages with random "code" to random numbers, and my contacts. It's gone and deleted contacts, then sent out an email, I fear for the contact's life it deleted, maybe a sign of things to come. It also calls people I haven't been to great to, maybe making me reconcile our differences, as if I'm the next John Conner and am going to lead the revolution. Now I'm just waiting for a naked Arnold to show up at a biker bar and come to protect me. DroidNET became self aware 3/22/11 |

Toasters just be patient. Let developers come up with better and more efficient ways to root your phone. I have had my Droid Incredible since August and i love this thing. I was doing research on it for 6 weeks before i bought it so i knew what to expect. There were ways to root the phone but i didnt attempt them until i knew there was a process that was safe and efficient. I had the phone about a month before they released a program that roots the phone for you. No special hacks. Just hook it up the PC, sync it, run the program... few restarts and voila! Rooted. Rooting with the factory Sense UI was fun.... for some time. I enjoyed tweaking the CPU speeds and what not, backing up files the easy way, etc... Doing so helped my phones battery life drastically (Droid Incredible battery lasts half a day at max unless CPU is set up to conserve wasted juice). However, that only last so long. I grew tired and bought the extended battery. The 2150mAh. This baby lasts all day long and then some. Sometimes 2 days long. Then i got into ROMs. Oh yea! Fun stuff! Started with SkyRaider Sense. It was nice... but not what i was looking for. MOved onto SkyRaider Vanilla using Launcher Pro as the UI. Launcher Pro is the best. Nothing is better. That mixed with Vanilla Android made the phone run so smooth. And it keeps getting smoother. My phone is twice as fast as when i originally started with ROMs and like 5 times faster then factory. Then i got into Kernels... lots and lots of them. I swore by KingKernels. They were fast and excellent on battery conservation. But ive moved on and tried others. Now im fixated on HeyItsLou Kernels. It isnt an overclocked kernel like the others ive tried. However, it is coded so good that it has a built in screen off CPU profile to make battery usage while sleeping almost non-existant.... and it is so fast. Its faster at stock speeds then my old Kernel was when it was overclocked. AND it has less battery usage. Score! The other blessing about Kernels was it gives extra features depending on a few things. My Kernel supports wireless N signals so my phone, which originally didnt support anything over G... now has N wherever there is a connection (my house has N). Bonus! Then i flashed the phone to S-Off. Signature Off. Now i can flash anything i want to the phone. Ive tried Cyanogenmod ROM and several other ROMs. Just wasnt my thing. Cyanogenmod has good stuff, but they always have lots of bugs and glicthes that i just dont have patience for. SkyRaider Athena is vanilla android with lots of bells and whistles from Cyanogenmod, but without issues and its blazing fast. Right now running: Droid Incredible Android 2.2 2.15.00.07.28 Baseband Skyraider Athena 1.2 S-Off HeyItsLou Kernel Rooting is fun. Thanks for the advuce, but I actually successfully rooted my phone the same night I posted this (granted it was 6am by the time I finished, but nonetheless. It's no fun if all you have to do is just push a button. I like exploring through linux and finding little exploits. |

I'm considering a rooting of my Nook Color. Apparently you can turn it into a cheap android tablet just by using an external memory card. If you ever need to send the Nook in for repair, just remove the card beforehand. Boom. Back to manufacture quality.
