| Converting .dem to a video format | ||

Well I've been looking for an easy way to do this for quite some time now. My plan is to convert CPL demos into videos to put them on my player and computer to learn some techniques and strats. Now as you may or may not know, the only way to convert demo files to .avi or .mpeg is to have CS:S output frames from the demo to the HL2 folder, so one can combine them into a movie using a video editor. I found two programs, one called SK player, and the other DemoFreak, both 3rd party apps that will play demos, as well as output the screenshots(at 30 fps, standard NTSC movie framerate). It's much easier than opening up CS:S and doing it all manually. Problem is, I'm in Spain, so I can't actually test it right now, and I'm itching to see if this works for CS:S. Nothing on either page alludes to whether it works for CS:S or not, so, I'd be happy if someone tested them for me real quick. Yeah wel I found one in a short about of time  It;s called CSE Demoplayer and it works...but it launches the HL2 engine to watch it, so it doesn't fully work....it's impossible otherwise, cause the .dem isn't really a video, it's a list of locations for models and props to be at, so you need to HL2 engine.

What!? I've been searching for months now... I hate you ninja! But yeah, I did know that any program would have to use the HL2 engine...but I thought it might be able to play it within itself while still making use of the HL2 engine. Anyway, does it have an option to output them .bmp's so we can make movies? What I'd really like is a program that does it for you, gets the .bmps and combines them into video. Oh well.  Let me know how it goes. |

Haha well I am somewhat of a google hacker so anyways, the best way to make a video of yourself playing, is to record a .dem, play the .dem, and then record the playing with fraps, so it's lag free, then re-encode the fraps video (cause those are fuckin HUGE, like a beached whale) to make it smaller, and voila 6 hours later you have your awesome video. I was gonna make one, but then I got bored and played some css....so there you have it, ninja's unofficial-official movie making guide.

Well I realized something. My idea to video-ize the CPL demos is fucking stupid. I completely forgot that with SourceTV you can spectate who you want, look at scores, etc. It just wouldn't be anything close to the same. | ||

Eh well... it was more like... I searched last month a few times...then I searched this month.  And stop talking about Taco Bell...there are none here in Spain, and I'm angry. |
