Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Here in New England, the high today is supposed to be over 100 degrees (unheard of around here) and with the humidity will feel like it's around 115 So I'm starting a thread to see the best ways to keep cool. What do you do when it's so hot out the paint melts off your house? Here's my story: One day, we were at my friend Mike's house. We were thinking about going pool hopping (which means we'd fine a house with no-one home and just use their pool since nobody we know has one). when his mother comes back from Home Depot. She's carrying in this huge roll of plastic, so naturaly, Mike wants to know what it's for. She said she bought it in case there was a gas attack from terrorists (no joke, that was really why she bought it). Mike explained the obvious flaws in her plan ("do you think a roll of plastic over the doors and windows held on by duct tape would stop the sarin gas from getting in the house... with the central air system on?"). Now we had nothing to do, and a 10 x 100 ft roll of plastic to do it with... then the brilliant idea came. We were going to make the world's (by world I mean the town of North Andover) largest slip 'n' slide. Now, Mike's house doesn't have the biggest back yard (by that I mean there isn't one) so we encountered our first problem. Matt and me debated over who was going to ruin thier lawn for this endevor, but I finaly gave in (cause my lawn had turned a glorious shade of brown from the drought) We headed out in the convoy of our three cars (we race each other... all passenger fasten their seatbelts after the first turn, never fails). We got to my house, and as it turns out, it has a hill in the front yard that is the perfect slope/length for a slip 'n' slide of that size (complete with a sinkhole at the end to make a nice pool of water). We raked first so our slip 'n' slide would not become a "slip 'n' bleed from the aaaanus" as Dane Cooke calls it. Finally, we unrolled the ridiculously big sheet of plastic an put some boards on the side to hold it down (bad idea, I don't suggest doing it). We turned on the hose and soaked it down. I made Mike go first, since it was my front yard everyone was trashing. He got a running start, jumped, slid for ten feet, then stopped abruptly. That must have been painful. turns out the plastic actually got sticky after we wet it down, and Mike now had third degree nipple burn because of it. So with us being the Macgyver's that we are, we found a "Miracle Grow" wet fertilizer spreader, and all the shampoo/softsoap we could find in my house. We filled the spreader with soap and attatched it to the hose(which was amazingly efficent, squirting out just the right mixture of soap and water to keep the slide lubed up). We rubbed the shampoo on ourselves until we were confident we would slide. This time I went first. I did a running start and flew down the slide. the only thing that stopped me was the pool of water at the bottom. We did it, we mastered the 100 ft slip 'n' slide. It was even better than pool hopping, I suggest you do this if you have the money (roll of plastic - $10 - 20, soap - $8 a gallon, miricle grow spreader - $3 - 5) Oh yeah, and the reason putting boards on the side is a bad idea... Matt slid head first and went straight for the side of the slide, jamed his fingers then hit his head on the board before flying off the slide into the grass (hitting the grass is like hitting the brakes on the highway then coming to a full stop. Not pleasent). so not only were they pointless in keeping you in the slide, they fucked you up if you hit them. So what's your best "hot day" story? |

I just HAVE to be in New England when it's one of the hottest days here. Great. We've actually been having weather around 115 in the bay area, it's killer. Some people have even died from it. |
