So, friday when I get home my mom tells me the comp is broken. I turn it on and it says " Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM" I turn restart the comp, thinking it's a one time boot up problem, same message. So then, I pop in the Windows XP disk thinking that I can repair the drives. wrong. It says something like "windows cannot reformat becuase the hard drives cannot be detected, you best check yo hds, son." and Im stuck at that, I need halp. btw, Im running off an old , 120gb HD right now. SPECS: Asus A8n-SLI premium 2 WD 250gb 16mb cache HDs AMD 4400X2 OCZ 2X1GB ram XFX 7900gt plus NEC 3550A dvd drive and a floppy drive |

well i would suggest hooking up your main drive as a slave and getting anything off of it that you can as a first thing to do, but other than that the only things I can think of are repairing it which you said wouldnt work or wiping and reinstalling. hopefully that helps but i kinda doubt it | ||

Did you overclock the X2? If you did, try lowering your clocks(or make sure you didn't accidentally unlock your PCI bus), sometimes it can cause the motherboard not to like your hard drives, don't really know why. If not...I'd say corruption. | ||

Ermm, I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. It was missing a .dll file and so since it's my Dell laptop, i phoned them up, and they sent a windows cd so I just installed windows into a diff folder on my drive so I wouldn't have to format and lose all my data. If you have the windows disk, try whatever you can to recognize your HDD then reinstall without format.. Maybe the problem is that since it cant detect your HDD, IT ISNT PLUGGED IN!!! | ||

wow jesus, do you think I'm retarded or something? Of course I checked to see if the hard drives were plugged in. once again, I CANNOT reformat because windows isnt recognizing my drives. |

That doesn't make sense... If it doesn't recognize your drives, then how can it know that it is missing a file from your drive? If it can detect a missing file, then it can detect the drive. Lame. | ||
