Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

I'm heading to college, and I want something like an alienware beauty for gaming..but the only thing I know about customizing computers is selecting their color. Any of you techie kiddies out there got any good ideas, under/around the price of $2,000? It'd be greatly appreciated |

Here's an idea - bring your desktop and laptop to college... i'm doing that because gaming laptop's are rediculously expensive. My laptop's just gonna be for notes/homework, and my desktop for gaming. This way, when I take my laptop to the library or whatever for homework, i'll be more focused! | ||

Don't go with and Alienware for two reasons: 1) It's owned by Dell so their service automatically sucks 2) It is WAY overpriced, just becuase of their flashy cases and such. Go check Newegg or Tiger Direct for some cool Laptop deals. Some of them you can even customize yourself! |

As the owner of a gaming laptop, here are the reasons I suggest you don't get a laptop: 1. Regular hardware usually won't fit in a laptop, so you find yourself looking for obscure graphics cards that will fit in your case (which btw are expensive cause they have to be small). 2. since it's a gaming computer, it's going to be generating a lot of heat, which means you really can't place it on a flat surface cause then the fans are starved for air and buzz like crazy. 3. It'll be heavy, so you won't want to lug it around to class or whatnot. 4. it'll eat power which means a battery life of about an hour. turns into 30 minutes when playing games or other memory hungry activities. 5. don't even think of leaving your laptop alone for a second. people see a sleek computer at the caf and it only takes one careless trip to the condiments counter to loose your 2000 dollar computer. 6. I wish I had bought a desktop instead so I could change around the parts every now and then to make my computer better, instead i'm stuck with all my stock hardware cause the parts I need aren't on newegg and the manufacturer wants an arm and a leg for small orders. Bottom line is, I think laptops should be for work purposes only, so you have a portable media between desktops. sure you can throw some games on there, but leave the heavy lifting to the desktops. I have a laptop and it rarely left my room. the utillity of having a portable computer is greatly outweighed by the compatabillity, power, cost, and customizabillity of a stationary desktop. |

Whatever you do, if you want to game, make sure the laptop has 1-2 G of RAM, a nice processor, Atleast a Geforce 7800, and would probably be recommended that you have like IDK, prob like an 80 G HD, no need for anything more if all you're going to do is get notes and play games. Alienware is owned by Dell like said before, enough said. Whichever way you look at it, I would go with the recommendation made by MR and say to bring your desktop and just use your laptop for notes, since like I, I cannot concentrate on work when I know I have access to games lol. If that is not in the agenda, then you have 3 major laptops to look at here. The Xtreme CTX Pro -[link]- The Dell XPS -[link]- Or Alienware Aurora mALX -[link]- I personally recommend a Rock CTX Pro, they are prob a lil bit more expensive than the average laptop, but it would last you quite well, and you also have the Alienware Aurora, I personally hate Dell with a fucking passion, so i cannot give you any great feedback. I like the SLI processors, and that it includes Vista, but that could also be a downside. XP VS VISTA As of now, Vista is extremely buggy. I personally would go for an XP for now and then upgrade to Vista whenever you feel like it, because if you are not running an 8800 and Direct X 10, there is no need to upgrade at this certain moment in time.
