| Fucking virus HELP! | ||

Hi AngryToasters. I recently had an infection like this. None of the broad-adware programs worked, so I had to go specific. You do not have to reformat windows, trust me on this. What you do have to do is what Kddude said. You actually need to click on that link, and see what comes up. Then type the name of the program it's advertising into google. There will be about seven billion other cases. You will find a solution. That actually looks like an isnotify.exe/ismon.exe to me. Look in your running processes(ctrl+alt+delete) and tell me if either of those are running. The isnotify.exe is a variation of the smitfraud virus/malware/whatever you want to call it. So go to this page: -[link]- and follow the instructions. Actually, even if isnotify.exe or ismon.exe aren't running, use that anyway. It definitely looks like smitfraud. Good day, good luck. |

I actually downloaded ewido, it's pretty good. And as for Amped, he pretty much hit it right on the spot. Check that site out, then post back here with results. This probably won't work, but just for the future when it's fixed, you should download the windows anti-spyware*. It's a pretty good program, allthough it seems like it would suck it if was made by windows, you should try it out. And I don't know why, but norton/mcaffee NEVER work for me, I think they're a huge waste >.< * - Narf corrected me. Edited Wed Jul 19 2006, 10:28PM |

If I could, I would download every single credible virus protection program out there. The problem is many antivirus programs conflict with each other (like norton and Mcaffe). So wouldn't windows antivirus conflict with Mcaffe (remember, I have to keep Mcaffe because of my college's dumb network)? Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself here. I'm not even at home to try any of this stuff out yet. I'll definitly try what amped said to do tonight. As for windows antivirus, I'll look into it (and yes I do agree that norton/mcaffe are crap) |

SS&D found it many times and could not cure it. It was also because I was using an older version that I had kept upating. But now that I redownloaded it its gone, Norton found it as well and I think that it got rid of it. Smithfraud was a real bitch though. |

ok, here are some screenshots I took when mcaffe caught the virus (and did nothing about it), and one of task manager (I highlighted ismon.exe). Great job team, yo have succesfully diagnosed my problem. I'll get to fixing it right away.
