Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

GODDAMN! what a fucking awesome show! Here is a tiny bit of background... so that the rest of what I say will not come off as 'stalker-erific" Stovall introduced me to Warp11 couple of years ago, and my first show was at the Old Ironsides, and I brought my best bud Todd 'Tavo' Mauldin, he and I geeked out with Stovall and the hook was set. I've been to a couple more show since then... loving every minute. Tavo was inspired by the comradely and fun that exuded from Warp 11, He started fucking around with his own guitar and found a sound that he liked. It was the blues. Not the Chicago blues... but the Mississippi blues... and he took to playing with a little battery operated belt-clip amp and walking down the street in front of his house. One day he heard a Harmonica being played from a garage across the street. The owner of the harmonica turned out to be Jack 'don't expect him to reply to the post, but he sure can play the mouth harp' Doyle. And so the Hellbusters were formed. And it was good. Tavo being a much better at social networking than I start a email, then phone based friendship with Captain Karl. And it was good. This is where the geek-points fly out the window... couple of shows/years later, Karl gave Tavo a call and says Hellbusters with your blues so tight... won't you open for my band tonight? I was not there, but I've heard, and I still don't know how Tavo stopped himself from exploding with joy. All I know is now I was coming down to Sac to see my best friend's blues band open for my favorite sci-fi rock band! So yeah I was a roadie... but I'm totally down with it. It meant I got to follow Todd around and it meant getting to go with him and Jack before sound check to drop of Karl's b-day present. I know most of you know that Karl is an awesome human being and fucking cool all over, but from a fan who has only been to a handful of concerts... This was a big deal to me. We arrive, and knock on the door. We are greeted by Ensign Merlino's wife. The sound hit me first: In the back room I can hear W11 practicing, on the big-screen: Star Trek - First contact is playing off the DVD. We head back and are greeted with what I'll be calling 'The Warp Core' instruments, stands amps... 'cool-as-shit' red parachute is the wall to wall to ceiling covering. There is some small talk, but it's short we do not want to interrupt the practice. Heading back out to the living room and We hear Kiki stretching her vocal chords in the bathroom. Back out in the living room Kiki comes out. wants to know if we need anything to drink. (Thats what I love about Warp 11, here they are getting ready for the night's show... and they have a 6'5" fan boy in their home and still courteous and hospitable.) Sure.. water would be fine. (I'm still not used to the temp change from Carson to Sac.) I follow Kiki into the kitchen and she says use the water dispenser in the door of the fridge, what kind of glass would you like, Star wars or Star Trek? (A TEST!!! I KNEW IT!) Star Trek of course! So put yourself in my fanboy shoes... (size 13) In Sacramento, to see Warp11 at the CD release party show, My best friend's band is opening for them, I'm in the house that Warp 11 built, listening to Warp 11 practice, watching Star Trek, drinking water out of one of thier Star Trek collectible glasses... FUCK!!!! POINTS! and this is all BEFORE the show! Alright. So fast forward a couple of hours. Tavo has hinted to crewmembers on the board here that there was going to be a "yeah Brother 4.0" but I 'm not sure everyone associated Tavo and Hellbusters, but they would after tonight! Warp 11 knew Tavo & Jack were going to do a cover, but I'm not even sure the band members knew it was going to be with the Hellbusters resplendent in home-made replica W11 T-shirts. So I'm loving how well the audience is responding to the Hellbusters... I getting all freaked out because I know what is coming... Jack stands up and plays the opening tune for Star Trek on his harmonica. Hellbusters playing Yeah Brother <---audio cuts out at the start. A bomb went off... Crewmembers went through a brief moment of astonishment... "Did he just play what I think he played!? Oh yes... I think he did!" Then, the Blues version of Yeah brother came forth! And it was good. After The Hellbusters were done, we cleared the Hellbuster gear off the stage and and get ready to enjoy W11, Jack motions to me, and he asks "what are they saying?" (this query because he hears the everyone shouting WARP... WARP... WARP...) I said that's the 'crewmember chant'... he says 'But they did that for us too!' I said... yergoddamn right they did! Warp 11 roxxored our boxxors till 1:20ish and Kiki invited crewmembers to the After part for Karl's B-day cake and presents. Tavo got his Warp11 shirt signed by all four band member, and I had a mini 'culinary-geek-out' with Kiki... You people know why those star-shaped cupcakes ruled from a very high throne? Egg whites only! (I might have to make room on my 'patron saint of cooking' pedestal so that I can put Kiki up there with Alton Brown!) I love these bands... I love the people in them... I love the people who love them like I do. LONG LIVE WARP 11!!! and OBEY THE HELLBUSTERS!!! |

Oh yeah... confirmation of Warp 11 being a 'peoples band' is that they hang out after the shows and drink with the fans. Jeff the Drummer was at the bar and he asked the bartender for a shot of Stoli I turned to him and said... you know your money is not good here? I bout him two. |
